Yes, one of the most informative videos I’ve seen on these cars. I’m in a pickle because that mid-level mount that is in the frame. I’m told you have to remove the engine to get to it. I’m getting quotes of way over $3000. I like the car but I’m not sure it’s worth that much, this is a GT so maybe it has more stuff in there but it seems like you know how to do it. Any advice?

Thank you for this video!!!! You just walked me through a job I did not want to do. It wasn't so bad as I played the video as I went along.

Great camera work. The secret to this repair , as with most underhood repairs on PT Cruisers (because of the tight packaging of the engine) is getting parts out of the way to gain access to what needs to replaced. This is the best video on this repair that I have seen.

Loosen your Trans mount and you can push the engine back enough to remove the motor mount.

I don't know what happened, I started to write a comment and the tube decided to just dump the content! I am just learning how to make comments. anyway, I like your video's and appreciate your love of the pt, I have one 06 a real hot rod ! my older brother got a 1937 ford for his 16th birthday years ago. what I wanted to say was the ford which has a similar body design and v/8 engine 65 horse compared to the pt 4 bangers 150 horse pt is in fact not underpowered as some naysayers think! God bless and stay safe. I only wish ours had an automatic transmission instead the stick asI am 80yrs old and my bride is78 thanks again for good information!

Good video, I gave up on mine but I still need to get it done, I still can’t get the room for that bracket I jacked up the motor quite a bit but wasn’t able to get those bracket bolts out. Sure wish I had another hand in this.
@s33therfan3 жыл бұрын
Yes it takes quite a bit of lift . Once the crank shaft pulley is off the engine will lift pretty good. I like to lift it just to the point the bottom most bolt slides out. Use a jack stand or block also to prevent it dropping for safety. Those 15mm are very tight I like to use a small cheater pipe . I know I always disconnect the green ac plug on the compressor and remove the power steering resorvoir to free up slack as well and then its just a matter of keeping an eye on things. Hope this helps and thank you for watching.

Imma change mine when I do timing belt on my cruiser and other two to have all three new yee imma have some fuuuuun. I'm actually exited if you can't tell i like working on cars, since my days are somewhat vacant it lets me kill like hours I go slow on purpose just to enjoy it. Plus I like the pt cruiser too
@s33therfan3 жыл бұрын
Yes. These are good cars if you know how to keep maintenance on them. I do enjoy working on them myself. Thank you for the feedback and thanks for watching.

@@s33therfan I'm sure you know who easy it is to work on this car no? Even electrically too like I *HATE* my older brothers car an 04 grand prix i fix something and something else breaks that's really not supposed to break that bad but it does. And the electrical, nightmare. Nothing electrical makes sense on that car at all. On the pt cruiser I look at the diagram and test then it's fixed, amazing.

Interesting you have more room in there than I do. Even with the cylinder head off and all the bracket bolts and the side motor mount bolts out the cast bracket has no room to wiggle. I might have to take out the other mount bolts to move the entire drive train over to the driver's side. The bracket is literally pressed against the side mount.

Will loosening the transmission mount give you enough lateral movement to create the cross car clearance needed to remove the center engine mount from the passenger side? I have the complete engine/trans mounts and upper/lower torque struts to replace, but the timing belt/serpentine belt/alternator belt/water pump/tensioner pulley were just replace 5k miles ago so I'm thinking I will not need to remove the entire front end of the engine to get the engine mount out of its hole. Your ability to operate the camera and your hand tools at the same time is masterful.
@s33therfan Жыл бұрын
I am not sure . I have not tried that , but it may work. As long as it will give enough slack. Thank you for the great feedback and thanks for watching.
@F5000Racer Жыл бұрын
I removed the driver side transmission mount underneath the air cleaner while supporting the tail end/oil pan of the trans since I didn't have enough room to fully remove the engine mount from the rail on the passenger side. This bought me another inch or so and allowed for a little more angle of lift on the engine side. After I install the new engine mount, reinstall the engine mount bracket plate, and loosely attach the torque struts, I'll raise the tail of the trans a bit to line up the new trans mount holes. For those needing a little more room on the engine mount and engine mount bracket plate bolts, this deal works.

Enjoyed the Video. How long did this job take you to do? I am looking at doing this myself or just going to someone else. When doing the timing belt kit, why not replace the water pump?

@@s33therfan I'm thinking exactly that just now lol, turns out my main mount was basically nonexistant, no rubber anywhere lol. I'll be referencing both this video and your timing belt video when I get working, but as an aside: do you have any personal advice for me for when i take off the tensioner to fit the mount?? you said rotate 'clockwise' to remove? reverse threaded i assume???

How many hours did it take total if you remember. Mine is shot and don't know if I have time to tackle or have to pay to have it done. great video

I believe I spent a good 8 hours on it altogether. However if it were my first time pulling one apart I would allow 2 full days for disassembly and reassembly. Hope this helps and thank you for watching.

Dam! What a nightmare to have to change the main motor mount.

You can do it , it looks a lot worse than it is , but it is a time consuming process. Best of luck on yours and thanks for the feedback.
@mazuryfitness13084 жыл бұрын
What were the symptoms?
@s33therfan4 жыл бұрын
There were vibrations and in this case the bad mount had became so detetiorated that the movement caused the T55 main engine mount bolt to snap. Thats the worse case scenario but usually you can remove the plastic cap and just inspect it for dry rot and cracking. If it looks questionable then I would go ahead and plan out a replacement. Because of the amount of work at minumum replacing the timing belt with a good quality belt would be a must while you were in there . Thank you for watching .
