Thanks for the video, it was super helpful. I have replaced the battery successfully and my shaver is working like new now. From ebay I bought Lloytron AAA Rechargeable Batteries NiMH 900mAh which I used for replacement. Here is a couple of tips for those who are planning to replace the battery. I have to admit it wasn't as smooth as expected and in places it was painful. 1. At 2:00 you can see he is struggling to unscrew both screws , make sure you have a thin screwdriver for them , the access is not easy. 2. At 3:38 it was difficult to remove the cover as well as put it back in. I used flat end of a tea spoon to pry it up. Initially I was using screwdriver for that, but the plastic is not so strong and you might break it. 3. At 6:01 have a look at the positive cap of the battery. It is nearly flat the same as negative. This is importantant because the battery pack fits the shaver so tight up to a milimeter. I had a problem with the standard batteries I bought as the positive cap was longer and I had to file it up to the carbon, only then I could fit everything back inside. Thinking about it now you might want to find a replacement batteries with the positive cap being as flat as possible. You need to solder the wires to the batteries as in 7:31, the replacement pack has already negative and positive joined together with a thin piece of metal. I used thin wire to solder positive with negative, you need to be careful not to add too much solder or the pack won't fit back in. I also damaged the battery when soldering it, the temperature was too high and the battery got a hole ,started hissing and got really hot. Good it didn't explode. Had to purchase another and wait a couple of days. If you finally solder everything 10:43 is a moment of truth. When I did it first time I had to unsolder everything and redo it as it didn't fit. Had to use thinner wires and file the positives of batteries. It was f** frustrating. Second approach worked fine and I thought I am nearly there, when it comes to putting back the cap as you can see in 11:11. It was a real pain. As you can see he struggled with it as well and cut the video. You need to pull the side of the shaver to stretch it a bit for the cover to fit in. I used C shape piece of metal to pull it to the side and pressing the cap down at the same time. After that point it's easy to finish and you can enjoy your new shaver again :]

@@TheBigNicko good luck Make sure you buy a good pair of batteries, maybe warta , Duracell or whatever famous brand with good reviews. 3 years passed now and my shaver started behaving weirdly. Even when fully charged it won't start and the orange light will start blinking when trying to press power on . I need to put it back to the charging base for 5 minutes (it will stay on constant green anyway as it's fully charged) and then take it out and immediately switch it on. It will then work all the time for a long time , but I can't turn it off mid way because it will not switch back on again. So must be to do with the batteries

Another update. It looks like electronics failed completely. Didn't even want to work with new batteries. Rather than just binning the shaver I connected the batteries directly to the engine lol It's working now for what I need it for kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qKqgqtp5yt3HaJs.htmlsi=v4Hgz6LluIvrNtP5

Excellent video - I made the replacement, and the Bodygroom is working perfectly once more. It's so gratifying to refurbish a perfectly operating device rather than sending it to the landfill, and having to pay big money for a new one. Shame on these companies for the built-in obsolescence. The most difficult aspect I found was replacing the black plastic panel over the power pack, the one that is secured with four screws. Possibly because the plastic had lost elasticity, it took a lot more force than shown in the video. The two inner edges of the panel fit inside the narrow gap between the shell and the circuit board, and I was nervous about applying so much force so close to the circuit board. In the end, I used a blunt knife the guide the panel into position on either side. I suggest doing a dry run without the power pack in place to understand how the piece fits. Also, the replacement battery sent by akku-wechsel had the L-shaped terminals soldered on upside down, but since they were longer than in the original, they could still be wrapped under the battery to complete the replacement procedure.

Bought the battery, all good now. One thing missing from new vs original battery was tiny holes to put wire thru before soldering. On second thought I should have punched some using a thin nail. Just soldered wire on top of battery flat part. Hopefully it'll withstand vibration and hold or I'll have to do it again. Bought this expensive trimmer more years ago than I can remember. Used it infrequently which might have contributed to battery dying. I'd run it a few minutes for a quick trim before needing to charge again. Now it's like new again. Massively grateful.

I just did this... with standard AAA rechargeable batteries very easy to do and you just have to tape the batteries together with some electrical tape or glue and solder the batteries together with the tab from the old battery. Then to the pack of the TT2040... For soldering i would suggest using some flux to allow for the solder to attach properly.

Uhm....you totally skipped the part where you put the cover back on the battery compartment. I bought the battery having watched the video and it wasn't until I was attempting to do it that I noticed the convenient cut-away when you went to do that step. All of a sudden, it's just on. Not helpful at all!!!!!! If anyone is trying to do this, insert a jewler's screwdriver near the space between the cover and the body near the wider end and push down ad your push the screwdriver back, along the opening. You have to do it on both sides and you have to get the lip up over the lip on the cover. Also, when putting the metal clip on the top, another part that is left out, insert both screws but leave them loose. As you tighten down, make sure the clip is secured at all 4 points where it meets the body of the shaver. Otherwise, it won't tighten down correctly.

Just thought it was my Duty to drop a comment here. I can tell by the age spots on the mechanic's hands he's about my age. I've been in and out of the electronic's build / repair business for over 40 years. The only true secrete of the business was being a good detective, how did this break, why did it break and what component broke. There weren't very many of us back in the day, and as we found a failure we would many times pass it on to the other technicians in town. Including the manufacturer such as Zenith, Silvana, RCA, TV's VCR's Stereos, etc. I used to enjoy tracking down the actual event. Many times I could tell exactly what the customer did that caused the fault. It's part mechanics, part electronics and part detective work. Also, it takes very fine digital motor skills and a critical eye. I can tell you Norelco makes a fine product and these battery failures are a product of just leaving the stand plugged in indefinitely. No battery can take a forever charge. Good job on the video. My only correction was in the reassembly. You'll have an easier time of it if you put the battery pack and electronics in the shield cover and install it back into the shaver as a unit.

Rewatching this video I think it's like you assumed: I trimmed the two metal tabs off of the existing battery bundle (as opposed to desoldering the wires from the metal tabs as shown at 5:58). I probably folded each tab back on itself to create a sort of spring action, so that when the new AAAs were nestled into place there would be a lot of compression holding the AAAs snug. To connect the two new AAAs to each other (on the end opposite to the wires/tabs), I probably ripped off the metal tab jumper on the existing battery bundle and taped/glued that to the new batteries. Or maybe I created a jumper using a coil of bare copper wire or something I had on hand. All I really remember was using a strategic amount of electrical tape stretched taut to hold everything in place. It's a tight fit so I wasn't worried about poor electrical contact or anything. It's been over two years so I guess I was right! I still use the shaver weekly without any problem.
