Had the same problem. Disassembly is easier when removing the 2 torx screws under the head. Batteries were fully loaded although it wouldn't turn on. Discharged with a scrap motor until the batteries were empty, then shorted them for a day until they were completely flat. Assembled an charged. Now it seems to work fine with original batteries.also removed a lot of hair from the shaft after removing the head. Next time i wil try to discharge the batteries with a diode to avoid that the cells discharge too deep

So this kinda confirms it's not the cells being at the end of life, but some kind of internal counter that stops it from working.

@@UltimateDIY I still think you were right about the designed lifespan though, both in this product and in general how stuff is made nowadays. I followed your video and let's share my experience. If you don't open the pinches very carefully the plastic gets deformed and after you assembled it they don't fit. So is not very waterproof but lets say is ok. About the batteries. I firstly putted 2 Phillips 800mah.A few years old but rarely used. They were good but didn't worked even after all night of charging i got the same orange blinking light. So i decided to buy 2 low level batteries from Kaufland 900mah and give it a try. And voala. They worked. After you solder the new batteries have to put it to charge for a minute even if the batteries were pre-charged. And also you have to solder very good cos there is no free space to fit the batteries back in place even for that tiny bridge with the cable between the batteries. Good luck and thank you for the video. Ow , i forgot. After the Philips batteries and before the new ones i tried again the ones from the manufacture. They worked but only for a few minutes and stopped. So there is no software that is programmed to stop from working but battery fault. And i totally agree that is way too complicated to fix. Must be masochist a bit to do it.

Sharing my findings here... The issue is that the motor has a high inrush current and the microcontroller immediately stops powering the motor once the battery voltage drops below 1.75V or there about. Presumably, fresh batteries would have a lower drop so it works fine. Same for old batteries if one tries to start the device immediately after charging for a long time. Another thing I noticed is that once the microcontroller has decided that the battery is too low, it won't even attempt to start the motor again until the charger is connected even for just a moment. After that it will attempt again. I tried to add a big capacitor on the battery terminals but that wasn't enough. The motor draws about 0.5A when running, so the inrush current is several times that. I did manage to prove the issue by connecting a 1 ohm resistor in series with the motor. That limits the inrush current and the microcontroller keeps powering it, so it works fine. Sadly, it's not a real fix as the resistor would slow down the motor a bit and dissipate heat (about 250mW), which would not be a good thing in such a small enclosed space. Long story short, I have not found a good fix and decided to order new batteries. IMHO it's not planned obsolescence, just a bad design.

This tip will save you the trouble of dissasembling and save you some moolah! If you simply just charge the groomer for just 5-10 minutes only this normaly resets the faulty batteries so you can use it for at least 15 minutes but try not to turn it off inbetween....otherwise it will red light and power down. However sometimes you might find that it can be turned off and on at least 3 or 4 times! Either way as long as you only charge the groomer for 5-10 minutes each time you want to use it you should be good to go. Excellent Video by the way.

Same thing in my case. Its either bad electronics or planned obsolescence. Easiest way to find out is to remove the existing cells and connect it directly to the motor leads and the razor will run perfectly. I didn't throw mine away. I removed the connecters from the batteries and use themin my remote. As for the razor, I'm keeping it to cannibalize it later for the motor/led/switch/shaving foil. Later I bought an old discontinued model which uses rechargeable AA batteries.

Hello, I had the same problem. There seems to be an internal counter where the shaver then stops working even with a full battery. After inserting new Eneloop AAA batteries I have the shaver only once briefly connected to the charger and the shaver worked again. Possibly the existing battery only times briefly disconnect from the electronics and then times briefly give to the charging station. Should then have the same effect as with the new batteries! Even with a connected laboratory power supply the shaver did not work. Putting it on the charging station seems to reset it. Greetings Chris

Since there is only V and A, and a discharge rate for the device involved, I would assume their circuit sees a voltage drop under a load and kills it. The new batteries are able to offer enough current to not trip the kill switch in the circuit would be my guess.
