I watched the video, ordered the parts and did the work. Now my compressor works again. I am happy! If you're a detail geek like me here's the down and dirty. First off, the compressor I have is the exact same model as the one in the video. The video is clear and shows all of the steps you need to do. Watch the video carefully, a few details are subtle but they are all there. It would have been helpful if the tech had mentioned the fact that you will need Torx drivers with a long reach to take apart the cover. Btw, all the fasteners except the two screws that secure the compressor section to the air reservoir are Torx. On my compressor I found that one wire connector (on the yellow wire) was very difficult to unplug. If you run into the same problem be careful not to break anything, the metal that the connector plugs onto is soft. Conclusion: Good video, all parts fit, all parts work, my compressor runs again.

Just wanted to thank you for the great video and replacement parts. Terrific price over what I was able to find elsewhere for the same pressure switch. I've never tried to fix a compressor before but your video made it real easy and quick. I'll be back when something else breaks. Thanks!!

To remove the crimped Oetiker clamp holding the hose, simply unclip it with a 1/8" screwdriver where the two ends of the band meet together 180 degrees away from the crimp. No cutting required.

You don't need those spiffy cutters to undo the Oetiker clamp holding the hose. Just unlatch it with a screwdriver where the two ends of the band come together on the other side from the crimp.

Great video. I replaced the pressure switch with a new one per the video, but I'm still having the same problem with my Porter Cable 6 gal pancake compressor (C2005): the compressor won't turn off after it builds up to the cut-off pressure (150psi). It continues to run until the safety valve blows and releases pressure. Think I got a faulty pressure switch?

Double check the hose to make sure it's not leaking also the wire connections. You could have received a pressure valve that's defective. We've sold a good number of these and I only know of 2 or 3 that were defective. Let us know if you feel it is and we'll get it set up to get you another.

Thanks. It turns out that the replacement pressure switch worked fine. I forgot that when I was initially troubleshooting the problem I installed a replacement PRV. After I replaced the pressure switch valve and kept having a problem, I realized that the replacement PRV was set to 150 PSI. Fortunately I had the original factory PRV, and noticed it was at 167. I swapped them out and it functions properly. I should've posted that update sooner. Thanks again for the helpful video.

I have an intermittent problem with the Porter Cable 6 gal C2002R. Pressure builds to 95 pounds (says the tank gauge) then blows a pressure relief valve (or is it a leak?) somewhere inside the head assy (not the visible pressure relief valve on the regulator assy). This occurs maybe 1 out of 3 turn-on cycles. BTW the regulator seems fine and adjusts properly. Next step is dis-assembly, but just thought I'd ask you for a clue before I get into it.... is it the pressure switch leaking air intermittently?
@FIXTechGuides
@FIXTechGuides 8 жыл бұрын
Usually and internal leak and not building pressure is caused by worn piston ring and cylinder but this would be ongoing and not intermittent. I think your dealing with a bad or weak Valve Plate. As the "Fingers" weaken over time, they don't shut the air off as they were designed. If this is your problem it's a really inexpensive repair. Porter Cable has many different types of this compressor so make sure you double check your type to insure you get the correct parts.

My tank pressure gauge is broken (the dial and the glass cover) also the motor won't turn off (pressure builds) until the safety valve opens. Do you think a faulty pressure switch caused the gauge to break or vice versa?
@FIXTechGuides
@FIXTechGuides 8 жыл бұрын
+papaboule I thing the pressure switch is the correct diagnosis for the the pump not shutting off once pressure has been reached. As far as the gauge goes, I have never seen any break because of the pressure built in the tank and certainly have never seen the same pressure break the glass. Some guys run their compressors without the gauge. The Gauge does nothing more than let you know how much air pressure is in the tank. a bad gauge won't effect the pressure switch at all.

Thanks for the video, very well made and informative.This message is for the makers of Porter and Cable- please stop dumping such inferior products in the marketplace. There was a time when P and C were the industry standards for quality. Not anymore. Shame on you guys. You have not sunk to the low quality levels of Karcher, the manufacturer of high pressure washers. To all you folks planning on procuring equipment from the above mentioned manufacturers, PLEASE DON'T- THEY SUCK

I have a different problem. my p.c. compressor builds pressure to around fifty lbs. then kicks off and on continually but doesn't add any more pressure. is it the regulator or the pressure switch that needs replacing. any help will be greatly appreciated
@FIXTechGuides
@FIXTechGuides 8 жыл бұрын
It may be the pressure switch that's shutting the compressor down before it reaches full pressure. Since the pump never builds anymore pressure than the 50 pounds I would suspect either the Fingers on the valve plate are getting week or the ring on the piston is worn enough that any pressure over 50 pounds is bleeding back off. If it is the worn internal parts it will keep getting less until it has no pressure.

why do pressure switches have an on at say 120 psi and off at 175. shouldn't the on be from 0 to 175
