Of all the videos on this exact repair, i feel this is one of the very best. This is a man who is excellent at what he does, very sensitive, focused, and does what is needed in the most efficient way of any of them. Try listening to what the man says and why he does it - those of you who have issues with the video for whatever reason.

So this is the Subaru dealer in Stamford CT and he's using an impact wrench to put on the axle nut ? lol wut ?

This repair/replace is such a headache. My biggest issue is that parking brake drum. This is first video where the drum wasn't disassembled. 😊

Nice job. Good advice to hold the axle back, and to polish the mounting surface to preserve alignment. If you use a lapel microphone or headset you'll have less background noise, and the guys' shop music won't so easily get flagged by youtube for copyright infringement.

I like the dance music it reminds me of my younger club partying days. 😁

I use a torque wrench on the axle nut to set proper torque or risk premature damage to the new bearing but what do i know I'm just a hack.
@efixes80103 жыл бұрын
I’ve been doing it for years and I haven’t seen any premature damage to the bearings.

I would re paint the backing plate. It will rust quickly otherwise. I'm also going to use copper anti seize. Just ordered two new oem Subaru updated WB's and the new updated backing plates. Subaru TSB recommends replacing as a pair.

I know you said "you were lazy", but you really should make things easy on yourself and remove the abs sensor. Second, you need to support that bearing assembly BEFORE you go ballistic on it with a sledge hammer or else you could damage the attached emerg brk cable.

And this is why I do my own service. Lol. Atleast spray some brake cleaner to clean some of the PB Blaster. Knuckle all dented up. Axle nut all dented. Definitely doesn’t matter but still. I want my stuff crispy.

I have a 2018 Outback, just exactly how T.F. do you need to replace a wheel bearing?
@efixes80103 жыл бұрын
Hey sorry I’ve been busy The bearings in the 2018 outback are harder to do because you need to be careful with the backing plate and the wires for the brakes. But to the bearings it’s the same. To be safe buy the backing plates as well.

@@efixes8010 I think he was asking why the wheel bearing needed to be replaced for such a newish car.
@peteparker7086 ай бұрын
Many many posts on various Subaru forums all suggest that these bearings are prone to failure. I am also getting the impression that Subaru quality isn’t what it used to be. But then again whose quality is great anymore? Still think Subarus are better than most.

Nice tutorial but damn music was LOUD brotha! Haha. Did you habe to enter the veh3into "service mode"? I hear that newer Subaru's need to go into a service mode prior to this. Dunno what qualities as newer though.

I have a 2018 WRX i gotta do them on all corners 😃😅😅😅

The new vehicle with electronic parking brakes need to go into service mode. But it’s not really needed Service mode it’s more when your changing the brake pads.
@efixes8010 Жыл бұрын
Service mode is so you can push the brake pisten in

@@efixes8010 so I'm good then! I have already done brakes on all 4s twice and I have a manual with handbrake. Good to know!! Appreciate the timely response! Ive been so busy ive put off the humming coming from my car and honestly just gonna do all 4 corners. I know the rear is bad for sure but i think theres a bad one up front too. When I jack up the car and wiggle the wheels it shows zero signs of a bad bearing but they have GOT to be bad with that noise and the car tracks the grooves in the road now quite a bit. My car is noisy in general from being modified and with no response from basic wheel bearing tests kinda hard to pinpoint which ones. I'll start with rear then if i still have issues ill do the front as well. That'll be a fun project 🥴🥴hahaha 😭😭😭😆
@efixes8010 Жыл бұрын
Yes start from the rear first those are the most common ones to go bad first

Should avoid leaving oil from your hands/gloves on the rotor and pads

This guy ruined thus car. Hung the rear parking brake from the line then beat the crap out of the bearing while attached... then beat that housing up with a hammer a d dented it.

Lol I was bout to say, ummm no wonder services cost so much at the dealer. Theyre making youtube videos at the same time

Use metric on an import. Don't use standard on it like this guy
@jimrinker85313 жыл бұрын
The axle nut is the only place he used SAE and since that nut isn't very tight it is usually fine. All the others he used metric

Rear drums??? My 2018 Outback has discs all around, WTF?
@biggoathorns2 жыл бұрын
That’s just for the parking brake shoes. They’re disc brakes all around.
@omarpulido85023 ай бұрын
Your outback has drums in the rear for the parking brake assembly. It's hidden behind the disk brakes
