Wouldn't it be easier to take the tension off of the torsion bar from underneath the van and lift the top arm up,rather than stripping all that off.

You still need it all off to get the room to work as anyone that attempts it will verify. It’s just not an easy job

exactly my T4 2001 Caravelle torsion bar adustment nuts are copperslip coated and are easily adjusted .saves all of that struggle.

I put my new ball joint in the freezer but didn't appear to make a difference at all. Was still a ball ache 😂😂😂
