Awesome video, thank you for sharing! I have a 2006 GMC canyon with 3.5 and I believe I have the vacuum leak you mentioned @5:10 of the video. However, I cant not hear the leak clearly. what would be a good way to confirm if the leak is indeed by the throttle body cover? I don't have a smoke machine or anything fancy. I connected the OBD scanner and saw Short fuel trim level ~22% at idle.

Thanks for the video Mike. I have an oil consumption issue on my 10’ canyon L5 , I took it to a bad mechanic and he allegedly replaced the gaskets on the valve cover and spark plug tubes, but I’m getting oil on the spark plug threads again. There is no coolant in the oil when I change it, so I suspect something went wrong when replacing the gaskets. Unfortunately I cannot find a new valve cover for this truck anywhere, is it common for the cover itself to warp over time? I figured if I was going to pull apart the engine to replace the gaskets I might as well replace the whole cover, but I guess I’ll just try and change the gaskets out and see if that solves the issue since I can’t find a good gym genuine valve cover. I didn’t want to put some cheap China cover on it from eBay lol. Thanks again for your vids, they have helped me get my truck to 200,000 doing all my own work except for a timing chain change (which is when they say they did the gaskets).

I noticed you said to change the oil after driving 100 miles. But, I was wondering if you needed to drain the oil before taking off the valve cover? Would you suggest replacing the ignition coils when doing this job? What's the criteria for doing that replacement? Also, I didn't see the link you mentioned at the start of the video. Are you able to add the URL in the info about the video, underneath the published date? And, finally, great tutorial! I see this job coming up when I next change the spark plugs on my '04 Colorado.

Hello! great video! I own a 2010 colorado 3.7 liter with 202,000 miles. My truck is making a bad knocking sound when it is idling. When I first change the oil it immediately sounds much better but then after a few days/weeks it starts knocking again. Someone suggested to me it is related to the valves. The sound is definitely coming from that area of the motor. Is this why you replaced your valve cover? I just had my truck all tore apart in 2018 due to a small head gasket leak and the mechanic also replaced my timing change guides. He said my motor looked really good for its age (in 2018). The serpentine belt is fairly new too so its not the belt. a few years back it was making a knocking sound and a belt replacement fixed that. This is a different sound coming from inside the top of the motor.
@DIYwithMichaelBorders
@DIYwithMichaelBorders 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. We replaced our cover do to a crack near coil insert. The cover alone will not cause knocking unless installed incorrectly...which it’s highly unlikely it’s installed incorrectly. If fresh oil helps for a small period of time, there may be a leak. Have you ensured that you have no oil leak and your oil quantity is within the proper fill parameters on your dipstick?
@rfickes87
@rfickes87 2 жыл бұрын
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders thank you for the reply. Definetly no leaks. and yes I always add the proper amount. Is it possible my oil is not reaching the top of the valves/timing chain? like perhaps a oil pressure issue?

in the side of the plastic manifold there is a hose that clogs up and you have to take it off an d spray it with carburator cleaner both of them sides the bottom one is the blow-by from the carter and should blow into the top one and as fast as you clean it the hose in the valve cover should vacuum clean air instead of blowing air and oil...and make a mess inside the throttle body

Good question / incorrect information : coolant cannot leak out of the valve cover or valve cover gasket as there is no coolant circulation in the valve cover, only oil can leak out. You may have a coolant leak at the Coolant Temperature Sensor. To remove / replace the sensor you will need a special socket ( GM part # J 45861 ECT Sensor Socket / or equivalent ) . If installing a new or the original sensor without sealant on the threads , apply GM part # 12346004 ( Canadian part # 10953480 ) or equivalent. Tighten sensor to 14 N-m ( 10 lb ft )

I hurd one is hidden behind the oil dip stick line where the bracket is and those 3 lines. Well I think I seem somewhere that you have to move the whole Bracket and those 3 lines out of the way to find a hidden bolt.

My 2006 Hummer H3 3.6L in line 5 with 130k miles on it. Had oil pressure light coming on & off for about a month, thought it was just a dirty sensor.. one day I smelt hot oil. Pulled over & had a little smoke coming from under the hood. Popped the hood & there was oil splattered all over the top left hans side of the engine. Mechanic changed the oil switch, but it didn't fix the problem. He can't find the leak.. says he thinks I need an entire engine rebuild & he doesn't have the resources to do it, but recommended a few mechanics around town. Could the valve cover gasket possibly be the case or do you have any advice or tips you might think its leaking? I dont have $5k to put in a new motor & I absolutely love my h3. @DIYwithMichaelBorders
@DIYwithMichaelBorders 5 жыл бұрын
Reality rap motivation Thanks for watching & sharing your experience. Great question & this is definitely more common than you think...not just the Colorado. Over the years of the engine running, the circular grommet gaskets begin to warp, dry rot, & fail allowing oil to leak into the Spark Plug chambers/tubes. The oil then interferes with the proper firing of the Spark Plug & leads to degraded engine performance....not good! Replacing your main gasket at the same time as replacing your circular gaskets is always a must. Below are a few links to our videos showing more about oil on Spark Plugs & how to fix it. People wanted a fuel efficient truck however the 4-cylinder engine did not provide the tow capacity & power that a 6-cylinder engine does. So GM decided to engineer the 5 which provided better tow power than the 4 & better fuel efficiency than the 6....they met in the middle. 😀 Thanks again for sharing your comment Bill. 😎👍🔧🔩

why put on a new valve cover and not just a gasket?

The valve cover is part of the PCV system. It can get dirty and clogged. Prolly why they replaced it instead of just the gasket. I just cleaned it out and works just fine. Saved some money with a bit more labor.

ELIAS RODRIGUEZ Thanks for watching & unfortunately we are not at the vehicle currently. A rough estimate of approximately 8 bots secure the Intake to the engine. We hope this video helped. Keep us posted on your DIY project. Please subscribe to the channel and turn on your KZfaq notification Bell 🛎 that would be awesome thanks again. 😎👍🔧🔩

The whole point of me watching this video is because of a problem that I have been having with my Chevy Colorado not cooling down in idol. I changed everything that pertains to cooling the truck down. Coolant Sensor, fan clutch, water pump and cleaned out the Throttle body. No results though in cooling the truck down in idol. Code went out after cleaning throttle body. No check engine light. My research is showing me that a Intake Gasket could be linking and causing these affect in cooling it down. This started after the plugs were changed by Jiffy Lube. So I am wondering now that maybe one of those gaskets are linking. I am taking it to someone I know that will do a pressure test Monday. This will tell me if that is the problem. I have noticed that the problem is affecting as time goes on when it goes into a low gear and shakes now. As if there is to much air intake getting in and not allowing to idol down to a lower gear quick enough as well. This has been a pet project as of late.
