You're right it's better from the top, but the alternator wouldn't unslip from the bottom. It's just stuc in there but thanks for the video it helped

Do people know they can get their alternator rebuilt. My 4 year truck started squealing, took to garage. The guy told me it was the alternator. Took it off , took it to local parts store. They rebuilt it, still working after 16 years.

£76 alternator, £100 installation, broke the serpentine belt installing it, £112 to get that changed - probably less hassle to get it fixed than replaced

You will have to go through the same steps to rebuild the alternator, plus the steps to actually rebuild it (if you're doing it yourself). But, I agree. It's typically a much better plan to just rebuild it, than replace it (especially if it's the original alt).

Or you can just be extra careful like I was and try not to ding it. Ive learned if you have extra protection of something in place, you will still tend to be reckless if not even more reckless because you now know its there.

People do the most like remove motor mounts and push back the motor, remove the ac compressor when you can remove the fan and two hoses…

You don't have to drain the AC system. Just remove the compressor and there's just enough room to snake the alternator out of the bottom. But, IMO, it takes about the same amount of time either way (sometimes that fan assy can be fussy)

@@myviews469 As I said, there's more than one way to accomplish the same task. One way, you have to remove some coolant and the fan assy, the other way you have to move the compressor a few inches (without draining any). Either way is possible

Typically I hang the ac compressor with wire off to the side without disconnecting any of the lines, I just make sure all of the tension is on the wire and off the lines, that way I don't have to charge the customer for an AC refill, those cans have gotten quite pricey. To each their own, theirs more than one way to skin a cat.

I have a trick. Don’t buy one of these hunks of junk then you don’t have to worry about changing the alternator every 50k miles 😂. Great video

Yup I bonked my radiator pulling my alternator out like this and now I have a coolant leak 😞 it sucks because my radiator is otherwise in really good condition and pretty new.

Mopar alternator? Stop it. You dont need that part to be mopar. Its a alternator, coiled copper wire. Mopar just relabels parts. Just get a denso and save money.

It depends on the car, this one is easy, couple screws, one or two connectors, slides right out the top..

@@samaelsandalphon5600 No screws on 5th gen van radiator fan, it literally just clips in to J hooks molded on the end tanks. The only slight PITA is the fan motor and low speed resistor have positive retention locks on their connectors.
