Bro, I don't know your name other than DIY HVAC Guy. Thank you. I was able to follow your advice/guidance and install a brand new Goodman HVAC unit. I chose the furnace and AC unit instead of the heat pump option. I had a Rheem system in my home for years. Nothing against Rheem. Don't think they are a terrible company. The darn thing never worked correct. After the original installer came to my home they could never figure out what was wrong with my unit. The evap coil would freeze up during summer use. The heat pump never quite heated the house during the winter. When the heat pump stopped, we use the emergency heat. Overtime the coils for the electric heat broke down and fell apart. We had the Rheem system since 1995. Good run for a half baked installed system.

Nice clean install, bending copper lines is king, full no cut/seem on the foam insulation outside, Nice clean whip and electrical routing. Inside lines with nice clean bends, no torch burns on the painted cabinets, clean tape job on the ducting/sheet metal. What I prefer on HVAC filters is the return registers that have the filter located in them, as that keeps the return ducting clean as well plus its more convenient when changing them. Some installs won't allow for them but most will.

Great job on the video. One thing I question is putting the thermostat wire through the conduit with the 240 volt line. I don't think you can put the low voltage line in the same conduit as a high voltage. If there's a short from the 240 volt to the low voltage someone's going to get a surprise at the thermostat.

Not really. Those thermostat wires would burn out in a second when exposed to the 240v line.

Thanks for your video's. On soldering get yourself the Turbo Torch and B tank with the different size tips. Heat your fitting only once since they are only 3/8" and 3/4". Heat the bottom and feed the top. A smaller flame using a B tank is better and safer inside the house.

When reusing the line set and changing from r22 to r410a, don't the lines need to be flushed out to remove residual oil from the prior charge?

I’ve done tons of system without the flush and never had a single problem. But you can use the little foam pigs and send it through the line and they do a good job. I just do that if I know the system had compressor burnout

Awesome! I love your videos. I'm getting ready to switch out the old 80% HVAC system in my woodworking shop and am changing from r22 to r410a. I already bought the foam pigs and Staybrite 8. The old furnace developed a crack in the heat exchanger last winter and need to get everything done in October before it gets to cold in Indiana! Your videos make everything so easy to follow along & understand each step!@@diyhvacguy

What's good about staybrite is you don't have to flow nitrogen when soldering.

you do not use solders on hvac systems, because they run at higher pressures and vibrations. tin-lead is rated for 150 psi at 150F, tin-antimony is 400 psi at 150F. hvac systems can exceed 450 psi due to certain conditions. And that's not including the vibration while the systems are running, slowly putting crack on that solder. braze has stronger mechanical connection.

Back in the 80ds most all electrical whips came with low voltage wire in the whips with high voltage around Missouri area. Then the rules changed because of high voltage jumping into low voltage side because of close proximity to each other. I've actually seen T-stat s melt off the wall.

Hey there - NEC doesn’t allow for low voltage conductors to be run in a conduit with line voltage. Needs to be separate. Love the videos.

Very good installation video, however I must take exception to a couple of things electrical that are not permitted by NEC. Thermostat wires are generally considered class 2 (low voltage 12-24V) wiring and can't be run in the same raceway as class 1 (power wiring). Like in life there are always exceptions, most class 1 wiring has insulation rating of 600V. If the thermostat wiring is also 600V insulation you could do it, not normally though. Also it is never permissible to use a disconnect means as a raceway, so running the thermostat wiring through the disconnect to get into the same raceway as the load side of the disconnect feeding the condenser is prohibited regardless of the insulation value of the thermostat wiring. Inside of manufacturers equipment is a different story I have seen some crazy stuff inside large air handlers and equipment but as long as it's UL listed, electrical inspectors can't say much about it

And it sure isn't coming down through the attic door. What do y'all have to do? Cut a hole in the roof and pull it out that way? They apparently put it in when they were building the house. Anyways. It's just crazy to me that that the heat can be that close up against the coil. I would have thought the air passing through would be separated.

I think the output side of the furnace isn’t supposed to be super hot - best efficiency happens when there’s not too large a difference between the house temp and the outlet temp. One factor in achieving that is the fan must be running while the burner is on. The other thing is the coil probably isn’t super delicate - the pookie is probably more sensitive to the heat than the coil itself.

@petersmart1999 My power from the electric company has a power surge protector on it but if I get a lightening strike on my house that will protect the utility company from the back flow but not my individual heating unit or ac condersor! That's why I need individual surge protection on each item.

Also need to protect your appliances & electronics. They all have computer boards, and power surges can ruin them. I've replaced 3 boards on my refrigerator at $100 each (at cost) not including install by repair service.

Sucking the refrigerant into the unit being replaces only works if the unit being replaced runs properly and doesn't leak. That then begs the question: Why replace a perfectly good working unit? Before someone says because the new unit is more efficient, there are other HVAC channels where they have done the math to show that the payback period is between 10 and 20 years. By the time the new unit saves enough to pay for itself, it will likely be shot and need replacement.

Peace of mind plus efficiency. This is a 16 seer, so it’s not a huge price difference from standard efficiency. But mostly this customer wanted peace of mind knowing his system was new and not going to crap out in the middle of summer or winter. Cheers

Mine is 100% fully functional. And it is from 1976 😂 I need to move the entire system to make the basement more usable when finished (currently the furnace is in the middle of the basement), move the condenser to be on the side of the house rather than the backyard where a patio is going to go, and yes I would like something more efficient. Not to mention the increased resale on the house will be more than enough to bump up that payback period.

@@Luckingsworth Those are all good reasons. Often an improvement like that doesn't actually increase the selling price of the property, but makes it easier or faster to sell. That can be its own sort of payback.

When you solder,its best practice to start at the bottom of the joint,and work your way up! 1,2,3 #1 Heat pipe,#2 Heat face of socket,#3 Move heat to back of socket.Bottom to top!

All new condensers are precharged so the old refrigerant stays in the old condenser and is not used in the new one 👍🏼 watch some of my other videos and it will make more sense

Whats the difference between brazing and soldering? Both methods appear the same to me aside from different heating methods and melting materials used. Could I an entire lineset via soldering or is there some reason that wouldn't be advised?

I used a dolly, put the unit at the curb on garbage day. It was gone in 15 minutes, the scrappers took it. I’ve heard some folks will sell it.

Noob here. Why did you not hook the gauges up after to check the super heat to see if it had the proper amount of r410a and instead looked at just the low pressure? I watched a different video and you were all about super heat being about 10 for that day.

Those 'fuses' looked like just regular copper pipe. Kept blowing fuses and said f-it lets create a fire hazard.

@@user-su5ft8lc9q no worst penny can melt easier. I think the only time a penny was used is when Dad had the front porch planed, the planer kept blowing fuses during start up. The penny was removed after the job was done I think Mom asked me to remove the penny don't remember what I used to remove it probably a non conducting object. This reminds me of a cartoon in the local electric code book. It read: I been putting pennies in the fuse box for 20 years. It showed the house burned down. 73

When you pulled the vacuum with the blue hose, you said you pulled the core out of the service side suction line. Do you also pull the core out of the core removal tube port that connects to the vacuum? Thanks

Yea I use the same gauges. Never had a problem. Just make sure you purge the lines if the last unit you hooked up to had a different refrigerant

3 ton and yes 3/4 is generally good up to 3-3.5 ton anything above is typically 7/8

We did not do this for free but they were quoted 7000 more then our bid which is absolute insanity. It was a 3 ton system

I would definitely be wearing gloves. I even touch that crap I have 15 paper cuts. Then crying like a bitch all night. And hands hurt so bad can’t install the next day.
