iPhone Screen to Buy - shop.theunlockr.com/collectio...
Thanks to my girlfriend dropping her phone on the sidewalk and shattering the screen, I'm going to do a video on how to fix a broken iPhone 5 screen (thanks Christy!). I've seen a few of these videos online but noticed a bit of a gap in the information that I'd like to address in my tutorial; they're incomplete. Let me explain.
There are two different types of replacement screens for the iPhone 5, one that has all of the parts that are normally attached to the screen included (earpiece, home button, etc.), and one that, simply put, doesn't. I HIGHLY recommend buying the more complete one as it's usually only $30 more or so and makes the repair process WAY faster. This is what most tutorial videos on repairing the screen usually show: a simple undoing of the old screen and reconnecting of the new one. This process can take less than 3 minutes (depending how angry you get at the prying off of the screen, and how long that temper tantrum might take you to calm down from). Instead of showing that today though, I figured I'd show the complete replacement, home button and all.
Maybe you want to save the $30, maybe you can't find the complete kit from someplace other than shady Chinese websites, or maybe you like a challenge? Regardless, there is a way to do it and it can be done still relatively easily. Here's how:

Thanks for this. Worked a treat (I used whole display kit, not just screen). Getting the oldscreen off is the hardest part. Takes some confidence. There seems to be a small indent at the bottom corner that the plastic tool fits in. I managed to lever it off from there.

4:22, you put in "the third screw" next to the home button. That screw holds the back metal plate so that cannot be screwed in before you put the plate on. You should edit your video and correct that (and mention the purple plastic protection you forgot to take off)

I have never done anything else remotely like this and even I noticed the screw mistake straight away that I corrected, I left the film on because I thought maybe, just maybe this guy might still know what he is doing, but after assembling it, the response on the digitiser is a bit funny at times... This proves that no matter how professional someone seems, that has nothing to do with them being a reliable source of info and expertise. I mean come, those were two obvious mistakes, I was expecting him to at least go 'duh sorry guys' when installing the back plate and correcting the screw. I always question people who look like they know the alphabet. Anyway, it did help me install the screen I guess.. but I should take it apart a bit now to get that film off, though I fear to run the risk of damaging anything as I was surprised everything seemed to work pretty ok, apart from the occasional digitiser hiccups that I am assuming is from the film, in fact im surprised its not performing worse from what I read about not removing that film.. WHY IS THIS COMMENT SO LOW

He also didn't transfer the camera guide or the small spacer.
@MasonSanchez.
@MasonSanchez. 4 жыл бұрын
I thought that protector on the back was supposed to be taken off. My old screen doesn't have a film like that. And that third screw. I knew it held that back heat protector on, but when I saw him put it on without the metal plate, I was slightly confused.
@MasonSanchez.
@MasonSanchez. 4 жыл бұрын
@@dalltex I didn't see what you were talking about on my phone. There is a small round clear plastic spacer that the front camera fits into, and my "bare-bones" screen like his had that in place already. And there's a very small square shaped clear plastic piece I broke off of my old screen, but that's also already in place on my new screen. Can you please describe the two pieces you are talking about? Thanks in advance!!!!
@ljnrf
@ljnrf 4 жыл бұрын
@@MasonSanchez. it's been my experience that different replacement screens have different amounts of those parts attached. It sounds like your replacement assembly already had them. However that protector, you have to take that off. That screw, cannot go in as shown. If you look on ifixit they often have good high-resolution photos of what it should look like.

great video. I did everything correct except one thing ..be careful where you put the screws when you screw on the last part to the new monitor like shown @5.27 ..if you screw the bit longer screw to the wrong place that will create a black spot on your new screen like it did for me ..apart from that everything went fine with the instructions of the vid. Thank you.

Nice vid. I'd recommend using a piece of paper, drawing a diagram of the phone(circling where the screws go), use stick double sided tap on the paper and then you can stick the screws to it in the circles. Also, pry the mainboard connectors off with the plastic tool instead of fingers.

Couple quick questions. I noticed you didn't peel the film off the back. I saw the tab by the home button when you were putting the back plate back on. Also you just put the home button in and reassembled, I've read or seen someone say to glue or tape the button in as it will move or be loose. Any problems?

Ive noticed that there is some kind of thin black layer of film on the metal backing of the screen, just the metal part, not the actual screen. Is that heat protection or something that helps recognize the fingers magnetic feild (touch) to the screen? Does it have a special use because mine got scratched when I was disassembling my phone...
