Are you planning on upgrading your motherboard? What are you going for?

but also better mobo has better socket - so i have to buy CPU too, and then you discover your new CPU works on different frequency - so you gotta buy new memory too. what I'm getting at , is that you'd better buy new system outright when older one is no more a current generation. and swithing mobo while it's not old enough yet is a waste of money.

Nick Grabeck As we say, it's one of the most intensive bits of PC surgery you can do, and not far off building a new PC, but if you've got a good SSD, decent cooler, and a quality graphics card you might not necessarily want to swap your entire system for a new one.

Is it necessary to reinstall windows after upgrading to new motherboard?
@PCGamesN
@PCGamesN 6 жыл бұрын
Chaidir Chalaf If you sign into Windows 10 with a Microsoft account then it registers your license. That means when you log in again after upgrading your hardware Windows will grab the necessary drivers and should retain license support too. If it doesn't grab the right LAN network drivers then you might need to grab them from the board manufacturer's website from another machibs and update them manually.

You should be okay. Early Ryzen and AM4 boards were a little funny about memory, but subsequent microcode changes have alleviated most memory problems.

If you upgrade your motherboard and cpu do you get taken into bios on boot? If so, what do you do?

So, do you fresh install windows first? or once you have installed the new mobo, cpu and ram? I'm converting to an amd mobo, cpu from an intel setup and not sure what to do with my ssd which has windows on it and my hdd that has everything else on it. Do you guys know of a article that tells me how to do it?

Definitely dont reset your storage?? Why would you do that? If you intend on keeping your OS. And content?? I never have anyway.

Gonna be swapping from an old Intel cpu to a Ryzen one, how would you remove the stock intel cooler? Do you just pull the black things in the corners of the cooler back out? And how would get the thermal paste off the old cooler? It's just rubbing alcohol, right?

Shouldn't you remove certain drivers before shutting down so there is not a conflict at boot up?

idk if they or anybody will reply, but if I'm swapping the case, psu, and mobo, but keeping the same GPU, CPU, RAM, and most importantly storage devices with the Windows 10 Home OS, will my files stay and my OS if I'm signed into my microsoft account, or will it just be my OS and no files, or somehow nothing at all?
