This was more a video on "how to replace jack springs the hard way" Instead of nails (hope you found them all), use sections of paint sticks. Use a "come along" to extend it. Put more in, until you get to the length you need (you did too few). Taking off the old is super easy, extend the jacks, insert paint sticks, retract jacks

You should try a farm jack with a shackle and eye hook easiest way I have found with 1/4" shims work smarter not harder

Leverage is your friend. Maybe a bit longer rod and then place a piece of 2x4 under the frame or whatever surface nearby and use it as a lever.

I used the 5 gal. Paint sticks cut to 3 inch lengths and the car pull with tie down straps. Insert sticks. Wala.ezy peazy

I outfitted my travel trailer with tongue jacks on the rear corners. They are remote control. The jack operates on a ball screw and the motor reverses so they power down and power up. Glad you are handy so you can fix things. Jack up the RV with the jacks and block it then raise the jacks. Put up a sign for an exercise program. Have folks try their luck with pulling that spring in place. You could even try to charge them. LOL

Yea!! You did it! What an awkward position to be in to have to do it though. I know I'd be taking it to the pros. Interesting video but are you going to post any videos of your visit to Disney World and the Keys? I sure hope so! I enjoy your family travel videos the most.

When you were putting on the first spring and had the plate jacked up high, it might have been much easier to turn the spring 180 degrees and hooked pointing out opposed to in. The plate was tilted for better spring entry. If you look at the springs on the second jack shown, one was pointing in and one pointing out. Just a thought.

Lower opposite side to give room underneath and car jack the side you work on. Don't forget to place in position so as to give you all the access needed

Couldn't you use a 2x4 or thick piece of wood on one end for leverage instead of pulling down with both ends of the rod? Like pulling out nail with a claw hammer and piece of wood; same principle.

Great work. You had contemplated bending the end of the hook a tad to make it easier, glad you didn’t. That weakens it.

You are lucky you didn't hurt yourself. You need a lot more spacers in the string and it would have been much easier! Once you lower jack the all are easy to take out.

Tip find a 1/4 inch steel plate 12 x 12 inch a 2 inch dia pipe 12 inches long drill a 1/2 inch hole in the center of the plate put a piece of 1/2 inch all thread rod or bolt in it with 2 nuts then put the pipe over it. Then drill 2 holes for a U bolt 1 inch (OR MORE) from one edge of the plate bolt on the U bolt. Place this under the jack lower the jack on top of the pipe to wedge it in place against the ground. Use a come along or slim 1 inch wide ratchet strap on the U bolt and spring to pull it down. Will need wood block on pavement to clear the nuts underneath.
