I'm a PE (Nuke, Mech, some areas of Civil and EE as well) - not my official opinion (if i don't stamp it, i assume no legal responsibility), but looking at historic dams that are over 100 years old, you're fine. With that height, your only real concern is erosion through the wings. Like others have said, make the one side into an emergency spillway, so if you get flow around the dam wall, it won't put the structure at risk. I've seen very old, very thin vertical poured concrete dams, where the upper face probably is enduring tension, that are still standing. Many of those old dams didn't have any rebar at all.

y'all have water rights/diversion rights? this would be illegal (in the US) without them. basic old-fashion water law.

As I watched I had one "criticism", then that beautiful waterwheel was rolled out and so I paused with my comment. As much as I love everything you did and the way you did it, I think it could/can be improved with a bit more contrast (some light, some darker, perhaps painted wood or other material) that really sets off the wood and other reclaimed old and honest material. The affect can be greater. That said, I'm ready to move into your beautiful rustic cabin with pond, etc Cheers from Vancouver, BC, Canada

Thank you and bless up your family. This was filmed so well, the artistic panning. Sharing these videos teaches us viewers a lot about off gird living and inspires us to do our own builds. How precious is she in that hammock upstairs! 💕 This whole thing is better than anything I've seen on HGTV 😂 watching from 🇯🇲 3YRS late. What lovely memories, good for you! I might as well subscribe

@3:02 "look out the window and CRAI! " Bless her heart. 😅😅😅 Its the TV trope female archetype thing. It always makes me pause when I see ladies like this. Can't relate to the tears of joy type. I always feel like we're made fun of and slapped with the emotional label out out of sheer axxholery, but then there comes a lady like this that actually behaves like that and you just have to go hmm. I guess the cliché had to come from somewhere 💛. I understand them in theory but I can't relate, could just be difference in culture. But I also don't have any children because baby fever never took me over either 😅. I love kids though and my cousin is pregnant right now, on her third child at 27. She's also a tears of joy type, and a throw yourself on the bed and cry type. I'm definitely a homemaker though and this cabin would let me live out my Snow White & Sleeping Beauty dreams 😆 (Aurora was living in the woods when the faeries raised her as Briar Rose). I would totally shed happy tears over that (in theory).

No you built your dam and you water wheel all wrong. Do you know anything about hydrodynamics? No emergency release system, dam overflow too high. Water moves faster with weight and direction. The greater the weight and the steeper the fall the greater the head pressure will be. I watched several of your videos and decided you really worked hard at failing.

I took one look at the thumbnail and instantly recognized the Meriwether Lewis Campground. I've camped there many times. It's a beautiful place, it's free, and usually it's quiet. Oddly, I've never seen a ranger at the campground itself, but occasionally I see them on the Natchez Trace parkway in that area. If you wander out of the campground about half a mile you'll see the monument marking the grave of Meriwether Lewis of Lewis and Clark fame, who died there under mysterious circumstances in 1809. For people just looking for RV info, there are actually three campgrounds operated by the National Park Service on the Natchez Trace: Meriwether Lewis at Milepost 386, Jeff Busby at Milepost 193 and Rocky Springs at Milepost 54. The last two are both further south in Mississippi. If you need to grab some food, Hohenwald "Hole-in-the-wall" Tennessee is about a ten minute drive to the west. Laurel Hill Lake is a nice state-owned fishing lake about fifteen minutes to the south.
