When was the last time you thoroughly cleaned your mechanical and biological filtration materials?

Official WASABI Moderator: Dear David. We're sorry to hear this. The only thing that will eat Staghorn algae is Amano shrimp, and if you'll need about 100 of them for a 60cm tank to destroy heavy infestation. Otherwise, review your filtration media and water flow whilst you reset your tank. Don't give up!

@@TellersandTales Good stuff! I encountered such an issue and it went away by doing small but frequent water changes 10L every other day. The filter case and trays were cleaned, the coarse filter pads were cleaned (using tank water) and I replaced the fine cotton filter material every week (buy the bulk stuff). As for the bio media I took some fish tank water and put in a bucket and rinsed the bio media with that. Then I filled the filter case with fish tank water and placed everything back. Good luck and let it do its thing.

Mine is palanaria worms, I would leave it alone. Unfortunately found out they release some sort of chemical compound causing the guppies mouths to swell up white. I think it's some sort of glue substance based on a shrimps reaction. Will probably try palanaria traps and 'no palarania' chemical if the problem continues. Will most definitely start cleaning the fishtank at least once a week now. Wasn't exactly cleaning it regularly.

Official WASABI Moderator: The problem with Planaria is problematic with Guppy fish, as they will try to eat the Planaria. The Planaria will "sting" the fish causing injury. Pygmy Corydoras catfish will eat Planaria, and that's how I treat my tanks. About 12x Pygmy Corydoras catfish for a 60cm tank would solve your Planaria issue in a week's time.
