Reset the maintenance required light in a Toyota after you change your oil so you know when to do your next oil change. This process works on most Toyotas including Camry, Tacoma, Corolla, Avalon, Tundra, Sienna, Rav4, 4Runner, and many more.
Step 1: Turn the car to the "run" position and make sure the odometer is showing (some Toyota's need to be on "Trip A"
Step 2: Hold down the "reset trip" button and shut the car off.
Step 3: Keep holding the "reset trip" button and turn the key to the "run" position.
Step 4: Wait for the "Reset maintenance required" light to shut off and then you are done.

Got the guys at Valvoline to turn off "maintenance required" light at the oil change about 6 months ago. Not sure it was on at the one I got about six weeks ago. Just noticed in a couple of weeks ago. Needed this reminder of what to do exactly to make that light go off. Thank you to you and KZfaq.

Very good info to have. Thank you! And what's kinda trippy is that at the instant you switch the key off you will feel the odometer button click just a teeny-tiny bit farther down.. like maybe 1/32 of an inch.. which is probably the feel of it sneaking into that secret little zone that kills the light. Man, who invents this stuff??

I have enjoyed watching and learning from your videos ever since I first stumbled across you on KZfaq several years ago. Excited about resetting the maintenance reset light that comes on yearly and I tried it and didn't work . so of course I read through it, went to trip A button and again it didn't work. Being a consistent chrisfix fan I figured let's just keep trying. I then tried via totally engaging the clutch while moving on to position A; again nothing. Then back to total mileage position .Each position waiting a full 60 seconds. Amazingly it reset! THANK YOU Chris!

I'm just curious how does the computer knows when the oil needs to be changed? Is it because it keeps track of the miles or because it knows the condition of the oil?
@thetoiletfrenzy
@thetoiletfrenzy 3 жыл бұрын
It comes on after a set amount of miles
@awakeandalive4248
@awakeandalive4248 3 жыл бұрын
@@thetoiletfrenzy. That's what I tought at first but I think there's other factors the computer takes into account. For example I just bought a 2008 Toyota Corolla about 5 months ago and because I work as food delivery driver I drive under very extreme conditions, stop and go traffic turning the car off and on constantly for 9 straight hours almost every day ,so here's what I did after maintenance light came on the first time I changed the oil with super tech high mileage full synthetic the wall mart brand I reset the maintenance light and also set the trip meter B to zero, so I noticed that the maintenance required light came on at almost 5 thousand miles 4997 to be exact and because I drive so much it reached that number after 5 or 6 weeks ,and it was practically the same after the second oil change, but I noticed that the last time I changed the oil which was actually today that yesterday the maintenance light came on until it reached 5150 miles, so I got an extra 150 miles, so I'm guessing that because I did 2 different things this time around for example to cut down on the many times I turn the car off and on i decided that when is safe to leave the car on when I get to the customers location to do so cutting the number of times I turn the car off and on in half, I actually heard someone on KZfaq say that the computer keeps track of the number of times and another thing that I did different is because I couldn't find the supertech brand of oil Walmart was out of the high milage, I ended buying valvoline max full synthetic high mileage. So now I would have to say also that maybe the computer can detect the condition of the quality of the oil, maybe valvoline is slightly better. But I will definitely continue to set trip meter B to zero to keep track of the miles but so far is a good thing that I can go 5 thousand miles minimum, changing it every 6 weeks sucks but this car is my money maker and it should last me another 5 years it only has 150 thousand miles it cost me 7000 dollars at the dealership I can practically buy one every year at that price, it has certainly exceeded my expectations when it comes to handling extreme driving conditions way more reliable than a civic zero problems so far and I'm pretty good when it comes to the maintenance of the Corollas and Camries.

Jordy Contre Awesome Jordy! I am glad the video was helpful and you got the light to shut off! My advice is to do what you have a passion for. If you like fish and the ocean, give marine science a try. One thing you dont realize at 17 is that you will be working the rest of your life. Even if you are making a ton of money, you will be working. I rather work a job where I make good enough money but really love the job than make a killing but hate my job. Hope that helps!
