Alright, regarding the braking issue...a few people have said that you should learn to use both brakes from the beginning......and I agree. But just not the VERY beginning. Because the VERY FIRST time you use a bike it's confusing enough without two different brakes being thrown in....one of which if pulled too hard can drop the bike on it's side in a flash. So the point of this video is to learn how to use the clutch....and while focusing on that....it's best to just focus on that. And when moving at a very slow speed and coming to a complete stop.....you should be braking rear 90% and front 10%. Which is the opposite of how you brake when traveling at speed.
Please check out my KZfaq profile and my newer videos: / 13mordeth
"I'm about to turn 42 and bought a motorcycle a week ago. I always wanted to ride one but never did and figured my time for trying new things is running out.
Until now, I have had zero luck getting my bike on the road. Time after time, I'd let out the clutch, lurch forward a foot and stall out. I haven't taken my motorcycle instruction class yet, but my experiences so far left me feeling too incompetent to ever drive the thing.
I've talked to a number of my friends who have bikes, and none of them gave me any useful advice. Your video, however, let me get it going in first gear. I actually moved the bike without lurching and stalling.
I just wanted to say thanks."

One thing I don't get is how changing gears with your feet work, so lowest is first, then one click up is neutral then another is second? That sounds like changing from 1st to 2nd to be quite a challenge as you might end up in neutral? Or does each click kind of like slide into place and it's easy to tell?
@MrSolheim1
@MrSolheim1 3 жыл бұрын
its been 9 years and you probably know but, 1st to neutral is a ''half click'' when ur standing still. riding going from 1st to 2nd is the same as all the other gears going up

Hey M13, just felt like searching for this video and comment saying this video taught me the basics and your other videos in general made me get into riding when I moved to the US in 2011. Unfortunately, my visa expired after like 6 months of riding and had to sell my bike and move back to Europe. Lived in Poland from 2012, where couldn't afford riding and was too cold. 2 yrs ago, moved to the UK and now finally decided to finish my licence and now own a 2008 Yamaha FZ06. just wanted you to know that even if you don't get the same views/subscribers like the american vlogger kids riding in straight wide roads in their stretched R1s, you still influence people, probably more than those kids combined!! A huge THANK YOU! All the best, man :)

Wow i remember watching this video back when i started riding, very helpful! just have to take your time and make sure you are comfortable with the bike before taking it out on the street, best thing to do is find a empty parking lot and practice, same thing with hills, find one and try to stop and hold for a few and go with out rolling too far back, for the longest time i was afraid of hills because i didn't want my bike to die or me roll back into the car behind me, i started out on a 500cc, moved up to a 600cc, and now i'm on a 1000cc bike and loving it! if you start on a big CC bike just RESPECT the power and you will be fine!

Thank you so much for posting this video! I come from a pretty long line of powersporting in my family but after an incident where my mother fell on her scooter as a teenager, my family refuses to teach me how to ride. I can drive a manual truck/car, but I always have problems with first gear, and because motorcycles are manual shifting, I've always been scared of making a mistake and sending the bike out from under me. After watching this, I'm confident enough to say I won't make such a mistake

Awesome video! Very informative. My husband just bought me a Vulcan. It's my first bike and I've never ridden before. This vid will help me shock my husband when I get on it and have half a clue what to do!
