Thank you! I’m *considering* learning to ride because my husband does & loves it. He’d be over the moon if I joined him, but I’m scared. I ride on the back sometimes, I’ve gotten better doing that. I think I’d be more comfortable if i were driving. I appreciate your calm demeanor/tone & your simple explanation. I’ll probably watch this a lot. You made it look not so hard, lol. Maybe I can learn?!? 🤔

I told my husband i wasn't comfortable on the back! He bought me a Honda VTX 1300 and i was too scared to do anything except sit on it for 6 months. But! All of those hours "sitting" there dreaming were not in vain. I got comfortable with the weight and the feel. Eventually i turned it on and started playing with the clutch, finding my friction zone, etc. I did everything in my own time, how it was comfortable for me. I'll never forget the day i got my get off the ground!! If i can do it, anyone can. I was absolutely terrified. Now it's my ultimate passion. Good luck!!

Throttle control is huge. If you’re jerkey with the throttle you will upset the suspension. When your bike is unhappy your unhappy. Practice rolling on as much as your roll off. Similar story with braking. You want progressive braking meaning building up to max pressure. Practice squeezing harder and harder evenly and smoothly. Excellent recourses are keith code twist of the wrist 2, yamaha school of champions, motojitzu, and perhaps dan dan the fireman for road safety. Amateurs practice until they get it right, experts practice until they cant get it wrong. Hope this helps any new riders! Ride safe!

It doesn't matter for how many years you have ridden your bike, some guy ( or all of them within 10 miles ) will think they need to give you riding tips/lessons. Get used to that. I find that revving the engine to drown them out helps a bit. I have 50 years of riding under my leathers but it still happens. ps... get a small dirt bike and go trail riding to learn the basics. Bears in the woods will probably leave you alone. Car drivers will give you no margin for error just because you are new.
