I'm parking my trike in the front hall of my condo, and backing it out is a hassle. Thanks for your tips; I haven't seen anybody else explain how to reverse.

Thank you for sharing such good information. I've been watching tricycle videos and visiting tricycle websites over the past few days. My own trike will be delivered next week. I was feeling somewhat apprehensive about riding the trike because a lot of the online content mentions tipping over but doesn't really show how not to tip over. I subscribed to your channel, and I'm going to check out your other videos for more tips.

Glad I could help! The reverse technique doesn't work as well on trikes with front disc brakes as it does on my trike with front rim brakes. Take that in to consideration when buying a trike if you plan to reverse a lot.

Yes, leaning into a turn they say increases the chance of the outside wheels leaving the ground, especially on an uneven road tilt. The bike shop said to put your butt more toward the outside of the seat to increase the weight on that side to prevent the wheel leaving the road. They also said that one wheel is a stationary wheel, while the other is not, and so turning left is easier than turning right. I have to practice. My first time out was a mess. I almost ran into the curb and a fence. I've ridden bikes for years, but this is entirely different. I was not expecting such a difference.

Same. I was wobbly and my trike seemed to have a mind of its own! My street has lots of expensive parked cars, joggers and dog walkers. I was terrified of hitting one of these! Better now. 😂

Brave man turning on roughish ground with a drop to both sides. Being new to my trike I need a car park to turn around in not helped by weak muscles due peripheral neuropathy which I’m intending to improve by getting back in to cycling. I have cheated by fitting an e-bike kit which I don’t intend using unless I go further than I can get back. Have also made some anti tip over wheels that sit the same width as the rear wheels and just to the rear of the front wheel at about 3 " high. Might be a bit OTT to some but nearly tipped it going across an incline on my 1st ride out and nearly needed a change of underwear 🙂, as the footpaths here in the UK have unavoidable and steep crossovers that occur at peoples drives due to footpaths here in the UK being narrower than seen in the states. Useful information given thanks, especially by someone with mobility issues. Bob.

Trikes should have the rear differential axle of the right side tire fitting into a thicker hexagon end ,over just either wheels on either side. This helps greatly from swaying too much to the right as the pavements in San Diego all decline to the right side of curb lanes. You need to keep weight down always and lean here and there on turns while slowing down also with coming across uneven pavement within rear tire width as best to TRY to ride head on. PRACTICE this key aspect of riding thru uneven pavement as you practice shifting or leaning body weight to counter Trike and feeling the proper physics as muscle memory..

All the turns is about circling around to have rear tires roll thru without stopping of turning motions as it tips from there. A Circle 8 vibe of turning and if it is an E Trike, NEVER GO OVER 2 MPH on turns cuz you will crash, hurt others ,get sued or worst brain damage or bed ridden from such a crash.

Happened on this video at 3am. Loved the basic information. It was most timely and helpful. As a suggestion for another video. How do you secure your bike when you need to go shopping, etc. What kind of locks would be suggested? Do you need two locks? What and where on the bike do you place the lock or locks. What type of surface do you lock to? It is great to get the bike, now how do you keep it. Can not find any videos on how to secure the trikes. Thank you in advance for the info.

I bought one last month from a bike shop and have only ridden it once because I crashed twice on when it veered into the curb suddenly and hit the curb and threw me off onto the street and injured my knee pretty bad. I haven't ridden it since because I am afraid to. Also, mine DOESN'T have gears to help when going up an incline and I wasn't able to peddle it all the way to the end of the incline and when it started weaving I pulled the hand break too fast and it stopped emeditally and I was thrown forward off of the seat and onto the street. These are DANGEROUS and especially for seniors ! The pictures of seniors riding them make it look like it's so easy to ride , but it is not !!

Hello. I am live in Birmingham, England and I am new to riding a trike. Your video How to ride a Trike: The Basics is very helpful because you explain how to handle the trike for the beginner. A lot of people buy trikes and expect them to handle the same way as a bicycle. They start riding, lean the wrong way when cornering or get tipped over by the camber on the edge of the road. I have seen a lot of adverts for perfectly good trikes which have been stored in sheds and barns because the riders were discouraged and gave up riding them. I follow three Facebook trike sites: one is in the USA, Adult tricycle riders, and there are two UK based ones, The Tricycle Association, which is for people who like to race tricycles as a sport or there is a more general group which is UK Adult Tricycle Riders. I know we live in different countries and we all love our trikes and its great to share our experiences and to encourage new trike fans everywhere. It would be great if you could do some basic maintenance videos for trikes. I know that it is almost the same as looking after a cycle but trikes are more cumbersome for some people they are difficult to handle because of the extra weight, changing a rear tire on a trike is harder than on a bicycle. Even something like how to fit a new chain or to adjust the brakes would be useful to many people. Thanks again for all of your great videos and I hope that you will be able to share them on the Facebook sites that I have mentioned. Just a suggestion.

When you lean into the turn will it feel like the bike is going to fall over and how deep can you turn the handle bars comfortably. I've seen if you go too deep it will fall over.

The only trike I'd ride is a recumbent otherwise I would pick a two-wheeled bicycle over these tricycles that look like bicycles with three wheels I just recently bought one and I cracked up as soon as I got on it the first time I hit a curb and the tire in the front blew out second thing when I tried to make a sharp turn I tilted it over and fell so I figured I can't make no sharp turns with this kind of a bicycle so I started to make wider turns in the street and all the cars around me decided they didn't like that so they started honking their horns at me these tricycles are very, very dangerous I would not recommend them to anybody let alone seniors.

Why is your mirror mounted on the right instead of the logical side which is the left unless you are in a country where you ride on the left side of the road such as England?

Dangerous advice: "lean into turns." The opposite is true. If you get in the habit of leaning INTO turns, you will roll the trike over. Develop the habit of leaning OPPOSITE the turn: when turning left, lean right. When turning right turn left.

I do it all time and never rolled the trike over. It help prevent tipping of trike at little higher speeds

That is the same advice the bike shop told me, and many other videos say the same. The wheel that is "light" and most likely to leave the pavement is the side you "lean" into, to keep the wheel on the ground. They said it is the exact opposite of what we did on a bike. It makes perfect sense. Also, beware of the brakes. Mine is new, and it stops on a dime. I can see how it could pitch someone off if they squeezed it too fast and hard. It is going to take me awhile, and a bit of practice to feel comfortable with it.

It is very dangerous to lean into a turn, as I found out the other day! I tipped my trike over. As the man in the bike shop told me, sit upright, and forget everything you learnt, in order to ride your two wheeled bike. They are VERY different!

Lean in to the turn, i think you confuse when i said lean on opposite side when on extreme uneven surface (slop from side to side.) Stay upright when going straight or stopped. Hope this clear things up.

Lean in the direction you are turning. Lean toward the tire that wants to come off the ground. The extra weight will ll help keep it on the ground/pavement.
