good information/content the only thing I would add is TIP #1: Ride grab bikes for a week to get familiar with the traffic patterns and obstacles. Use the Grab bike rides as a training tool.

Wow this was so great & comprehensive. Hats off to the lady who made the video. There's a definite way to handle traffic in Vietnam on a motor bike. Looks interesting!

That's possibly the best and simplest explanation I've seen. I love that you started with an explanation that the biggest vehicle has the most right of way. This video should be a must watch for all first time riders in any asian country. It would save lives 😊

Great video. You really got Vietnamese drivers. I've lived in Saigon way too many years. Every year more cars, more bikes more idiots. The thing to remember here is that common sense doesn't exist here. Expect stupid moves where ever you drive at all times. Tip. Drive looking straight down the road, let your side vision pick up movement. 2. Never look at anything for more than a second. That's when some idiot is going to pull out right in front of you. Situational awareness is critical to survival. If you aren't an experienced motorcycle rider when you come here? Rent grab cars.

Tipp 25 is not a 2 lane road. It's one way traffic all the time. I lived on Bui Huu Nghia street (seen in the very last snippet), and the short stretch of road next to Cho Ba Chieu is one way traffic while the rest of the road is allowed for both ways. I hated people driving against traffic right there as it always always always clogged up my commute so much and I was always cheering for the cops pulling out offenders like Sam in this example :P

An excellent video. It would be good to mention also that many riders in Vietnam (cars and motorbikes) seem clearly oblivious to most other moving traffic. Now I see that texting has been added to an activity that is done when driving a motorbike in Vietnam (as well as in Thailand) . I have driven there on three different visits (DaNang area) and am constantly amused with the driving experience. So far no incident and once one understands the elements mentioned in this video, one is much better off. I have found that my defensive driving skills are taken to another level and this is helpful driving a MC anywhere.

I forgot. Every delivery driver is driving while looking at their phone, texting (which is insane) or talking on the phone. Police do nothing. So it's much worse now. There are thousands of delivery drivers now, all looking at phones.

One of the most stunning road behaviours here is cutting into the oncoming traffic's lane before corners you can't actually look around. Leading you to innocently turn right on your own lane, just to have an almost fatal frontal collision with someone lazily cutting your own lane instead of staying in their own. Also beautiful: lorries and cars overtaking other cars or lorries on the opposite lane before a bend / a hill, when they can't even see if there's another vehicle coming. The only reason they avoid major accidents is that chances are smaller here that the oncoming vehicle is a big car, whereas a motorbike will find some space (hopefully) to squeeze tightly to the edge of the road of its own f**king lane. LOL A classic: people shooting out of tiny alleyways into larger streets without honking, just faith in God. People doing u-turns unannounced from within flowing traffic. Etc et al. The joys of true freestyle!

Especially with grab drivers who spend their life on the road. Sometimes I wonder how people are still alive. Cats have 9 lives, but Vietnamese sometimes have many more than that! Alot of dice rolling goes on for sure.

You forgot to mention the people that drive on the wrong side of the road and the people that do it at peak hour on major roads (like tan son street when it gets to quang trung)..

Any tips for turning left, if my destination is located on the left side of a 2-way road with no dividing barriers?

You'll see locals pull over to the right, check the traffic coming behind them then do a big sweeping left turn across lanes. Or you can slowly inch over more and more to the left before the turn, indicator on and don't forget the commanding shaky hand!

ALWAYS LONG YHESE INSTANT KNOW NOTHINGS. I have driven/rode cars, motorcycles & by cycles. I have been in one accident in 32 years in VN - when a car hit me when l was crossing on a pedestrian crossing. My secret? Exploit the VNese love of paintwork. They hate scratches. So my two wheel vehicles have stainless steel with small flags on them - stops any car. I also have bright red truck lights on my 4-wheel & motorcycles. VERY effective.
