Fiddler crabs are great baits for sheepshead, redfish, black drum, and even snook and tarpon.
These predator fish can't resist these little snacks, but there is a lot of confusion around using them for bait.
In particular, here are two questions we get all the time about fiddler crabs:
1. How do you handle fiddler crabs without getting pinched?
2. How do you rig fiddler crabs up to use as bait?
In this video, we’ll answer both of those questions, plus share some secrets on how to catch more fish with them.
Whether you're rigging them on j hooks, live bait hooks, circle hooks, or jig heads, we'll show you the best way to rig them.
If you want to catch more sheepshead, redfish, and black drum, you’re going to love this video.
Have any questions about using fiddler crabs as bait?

I've been hoping you all get the Bottom Sweeper Jigs on the discount program and stock them in your shop. They are expensive when ordering direct from their company.

Thanks for the clear tutorial. My wife and I are new to salt water fishing. Only 6 months in the area. Every fishing trip is an learning experience. We plan on using your tips in the morning with fiddler crabs. Will update tomorrow evening after we get back.

Do the jig heads weigh them down too much? I've had luck free lining them, or maybe using a split shot a bit farther up the line. No luck with a jig head. Admittedly I gave up quickly though.

Just curious, do the orange peels in both the opening and closing picture serve a purpose?

Broo I slipped my grip and that was no baby pinching. Far from it, I got sensitive skin 😆 no lie he got blood. The guy next to me freaked out when I did a spin to shake him off my thumb 👍 🤣

If you grab the claws and hold it it can’t get you or if you pin it’s claw against its body you can have control of it easy

These things are pretty harmless. Unless they get you in between your fingers, it doesn't hurt at all. I don't like to have the hook point exposed when I rig them, though

Dangle something in front of them so they latch their claws onto it, then quickly grab them from behind. They can't reach behind themselves to get you

Can you use a circle hook?
@chrisjones720
@chrisjones720 2 жыл бұрын
J hook will be better for sheepshead. They will be able to steal your bait more with circle hooks. A j hook will get right in the corner of the mouth.

The problem with small hooks is that there always seems to be a snook or a black drum hanging around the convicts..........lol

That's part of the reason I use a extra strong hook for sheepshead. Gorilla hooks from owner work the best for me. Those little hooks work for a 10+ lb sheepshead, they'll handle most anything else you get ahold of.

Idk, I just feel that there HAS to be some way to make bait that imitates these little guys. That was really hard to watch you putting a hook through a live breathing living animal and keeping it alive with said hook still in it.

@@seanfinney2750 I have never fished in my life and am not too interested in it, I stumbled across the video while looking up info about my pet fiddler so no worries about me watching fishing videos. Also, there are an abundance of humans too so does that make it okay to torture someone? I LOVE crabs and eat them regularly but I would not want to see one tortured.

@@seanfinney2750 My bad, I responded assuming we were two adults respectfully disagreeing on a topic but if I knew you were and ass**** I would have told you that if you’re too poor to afford lures then maybe you should find another hobby. Also if “nobody cares” then why do you keep taking time to respond to a comment I made months ago?? Have you nothing better to do? Maybe get a job or something so you can afford those lures!
