This is an ADVANCED Level instruction on a one foot spin, formally known as a Left Inner Back Upright (LIB). If you have not watched "Beginner through Advanced Two Foot Spins", I suggest you do so before trying a 1 foot spin. This instruction goes over balance exercises and gives instruction on spinning in both directions.
Appelusa is a USA Roller Sports (USARS) Certified Coach and Bronze Medal World Champion. She has been coaching for over twenty years from beginner, intermediate, and advanced level public classes in skating rinks, to regional and national champions in artistic skating.These roller skating instructional videos are geared towards teaching you the foundational skills needed to learn how to roller skate with proper technique and safety in mind. Skate at your own risk.

Thank you for adding the right spin, it's hard to find any tutorial on it. I've been spinning 2 foot to the right for 40+ years and want to learn the one-foot spin BUT...to the right.

Getting my first pair of skates this week. Are Pergo floors durable enough for indoor wheels? If so, are hybrid wheels hard enough to not leave marks on the floor? Is there a minimum number that’s hard enough to not leave marks? I love your videos, I haven’t skated since I was a teenager, so 30+ years later, I’m grateful for all the instructional videos on YT. 🤗

I’m so glad you’re skating again and thanks for connecting! I think hybrid wheels are ok. It’s mainly the toe stops you have to worry about, they will leave marks. Also just depending what you are doing. I think you may have to just try it out in a conspicuous corner 😆

Can you do the same things that you do with skates with heels, using skates without heels? Xoxo from Argentina ❣️
@appelusa
@appelusa 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Caramelo! Like speed skate style? (Derby - low cut?) yes definitely. The heel puts more weight to the front of the skate to impact art skating skills and maneuvers. But a no heel skate can also do many skills just as well, you just need to make sure you are getting the weight to the front for things like one foot turns, one foot spins. Your plate, cushions and wheels will also make a difference in things like spins.

Sounds like I should get some harder wheels then! Does anyone know if hybrid wheels would work with spins outdoors? Eg an 85A or 92A? My current ones are 78A. I don't want to get tooo hard wheels if possible because I street skate as well.
@appelusa
@appelusa 3 жыл бұрын
You could do 92 or 95 as a hybrid. The harder the easier to spin. It's going to be tough with softer wheels. I just keep a set on a shoestring with an elephant wrench for quick changes. So many you can have a set 98 to 101 and your OD set for whatever terrain. Depends on all the terrain you skate...

Hey there. I think I am being taught the incorrect way to do a one foot spin From an artistic certified coach. I'm very confused. If I am spinning to my left, he's telling me to out pressure on my right big toe and pick up my left foot. Is that correct?
@appelusa
@appelusa 2 жыл бұрын
If spinning to left 💯 % left big toe for left foot one foot spin and of turning left on right foot, inner right heel (same as two foot spin but on one foot) What certification / experience does the coach have? Maybe they got confused on direction or spin?

I always feel like no matter what wheels I use, they always grab the floor... So, I'm investigating doing this with some fiber wheels... I'm used to ice skating, and I'm just used to that easier slide...
@appelusa
@appelusa 3 жыл бұрын
Def a different feel than ice. Experiment for sure. So many options! Also where you keep your weight on your foot matters.

Have you come up with any unique movements?
@appelusa
@appelusa 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Shilvio! Haha great question. I choreograph skating routines for a living in many disciplines such as freeskating, freedance, creative solo, and quartet (4 skaters). As coaches/choreographers I think we are all attempting to make required footwork and standard skating skills unique to stand out from the competition. Putting them all together to a theme with costuming and music is my forte. I hope to share more of that creative outlet soon- in fact that's already set for release! Stay tuned for choreography videos in the next week or two!

@@DLinton I haven't tried to name my own move! Rhythm skaters are likely more apt to do such a thing
