95 day update on the store bought Ecuador Palora stem that now has a healthy new branch growing! This method is so easy to do, and I had success on 2 Ecuador Palora stem using this method. Give this a try if you’re having trouble grafting to get a clone of this variety or any that you find at the store. Check out this video to see what I did to get my results!

I watched this video about a month ago and immediately went to my local store and found a yellow dragon fruit with what looked like a viable stem. Twisted off the green portion, placed it in a shot glass on my window sill and about a week later I had two tiny roots coming out!

Hi Richard- I have been able to root a total of seven stems from fruit so far. They are growing well but none are quite large enough to fruit. I am planning to graft one of these onto an established rootstock to speed the growth. My seedlings, like yours, have fruited and produced the true Palora fruits!

Cool was it easy to grow from seed?
@conanteng9492
@conanteng9492 3 жыл бұрын
@@NMW80 yes actually seeds germinate really well, almost 99%. the hassle is to wash the seeds from the flesh. then just put seeds in a pot of soil. cover lightly and shallow with soil. then spray with water daily. as long doesn't dry out. check out richard's video where he has couple cups of seedlings plus planted several canes under some T5 lights in the garage. i live in california like him. and i just place the pot indoors at a south facing window. they will germinate at around 3-4 weeks.

Hi Richard, when would stick a fruit stem in soil and when would you try to root in water? I have a fruit stem thats about 1.5 to 2 inches long. Is it long enough to just stick in soil without first going through the root in water method first? Thank you for all the great content you put out.

Hey Richard, discovered your channel when you did the colab with Kevin with Epic Gardening. Thank you for all these awesome videos on dragon fruit. My question for you or any of your followers is once this variety blooms is it self pollinating or does it require a cross pollination with a different variety? Just stumbled on your video and glad i did i have started germinating dragon fruit seeds and I am over-the-moon because they are starting to grow their first route and they look so adorable. I place the seeds in a soda bottles create a greenhouse effect. But I'm not sure how long I should wait till I put them in a pot and let them breathe open air they started growing on my west window with fillter sun from big oak tree.
@GraftingDragonFruit
@GraftingDragonFruit 11 ай бұрын
Once they show their true leaves you can remove the dome and let them breath air. You’ll see that they grow even faster! Dragon fruits are very quick and forgiving at acclimating into their new surroundings. Just make sure you don’t put it into direct sun and slowly get them there.

Question: I know most grocery store produce has been flash-frozen, and that flash-freezing can reduce the viability of some plants/seeds... Does flash-freezing do the same to dragon fruit? I don't live in a climate naturally suitable for dragon fruit, so it's not like I can just go to a fresh farmer's market and get some never-frozen dragon fruit. I'm in USDA zone 8a. We get snow. Ain't nobody growing some dragon fruit locally unless it's tucked away in some private greenhouse (and I'm not social enough to say 'pretty please' to a complete stranger like that).

What about growing dragon fruit in places that are not warm all year? Like central Oklahoma. Would I need to bring them inside in colder months?
@benjaminnoble2244
@benjaminnoble2244 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you'll absolutely need to protect them from the colder temps. I'm new to dragon fruit, but I grow pineapples in SE Georgia. I can get away with frost blankets for the cold days we get in January and February. The similarity is that these plants won't tolerate below freezing conditions. In Oklahoma, you'll need to engineer a way to provide the proper warmth and light to these plants through the bulk of your winter.
