The store bought Ecuador Palora Yellow dragon fruit have always tasted good. If you're in zone 9a or 9b you may want to find a way to protect them overnight if you have successive frosts. (more than one night in a row). If you grow other tropical plants you may have an idea of what will work in your area. Thanks.

Great video, Gary! Such a great idea to root the little stem cuttings as they should produce fruit quicker than a seedling and of course will produce good quality fruit 👍. I did try this once, but I don't think the stem was large enough and it eventually rotted away.

I would love to move to a warmer area so I could grow a lot more fruit. As well as other things. Like many others, it has dropped into negative temperatures for the last week. In addition to quite a bit of snow. It MIGHT get better on or around the 23rd. Last night was -12, real feel -25 degrees F. I hope everyone stays as warm and safe as possible. @@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy although I find dragon fruit fascinating I live in North Central Arkansas where they would never be able to grow. We were 2 degrees F on Sunday morning and 4 degrees F this morning.

You always get a thumb up, first thing ! The only "cuttings" I have managed to grow as fruit/edibles go are pineapple. Took me a few to figure it out. One produced a fist sized most delicious pineapple, the others just grow into space hogging monsters. One huge plant I ditched last winter, not enough room in the house. My prize plant though is a date palm, from seed 4th year now. Not that I expect dates, but it's fun!

Thanks. You made a great point. Sometimes you have to grow multiple plants to get one that works for your conditions. Once you have a plant that produces for you I would work with that. If possible propagate from the fruit top. We can grow date palms in the ground but they will never produce dates. Yes they need a specific climate to fruit.

Great detail, the system can be used on tree seeds I’m propagating. Thanks Gary. I’m having trouble keeping my dragon plant happy during our winters which seem colder. Protection is key I’ve read, it’s tricky because our weather is unpredictable. Thanks. I plan to continue trying for a ripe harvest. Store purchased fruit is not very tasty.✨🌵✨🧚‍♂️🐓

Thanks Barbara. The Burpee self watering seed starting system has worked great for me. It's cheap enough, works great and I don't have to think about keeping things hydrated. I went with the 72 cell but they have a 36 cell. Yes in usda zones 9a or 9b frost protection is important. If they are hard or can't be moved finding a way to cover them overnight will help. I agree store bought fruit of other varieties are usually bland.

Dragon fruits won't grow here in zone 6b. We are quite frozen at the moment--below zero, however, I did learn to use those clips to hold the lid down on my seed trays, and maybe use some fabric under the soil to make the seedlings of any kind easier to remove. Those will help with all kinds of seedlings. My front room is too cold for my rosemary cuttings, they might be goners. I did move them to a warmer room, so maybe. Maybe I ought to try cabbages in that cold room?

Thanks Connie. Where there's a will there's a way. Some people grow them successfully in colder climates. They go somewhat dormant in winter. If you can figure out a place and a way to move them to a frost free space then it is possible to grow them.

I’m growing dragon fruit from a yellow fruit that I bought at the grocery. I don’t think they’ll make it through my winters here in Ohio. They look great and getting their own pots this week. I have 6 plants growing.

You're right. They definitely won't survive the cold season outdoors in Ohio. Some people do grow them in pots in colder climates. If someone reading this has any advise please leave a comment. Thanks Valerie.

My dragon fruit branches were so tall I couldn't reach the flowers to pollinate them. Robbie told me to trim them down so I can reach the flowers. I did and put the cuttings in a five gallon bucket. It rained into the bucket collecting water, the cuttings are rooting. The cuttings are about 12"-18" long Will they grow if I put them in potting soil? Thanks Gary, great video.🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

Thanks Shirley. Yes they will grow. It worked. The rain water would have helped a lot and they were put in the water at the right time. If they were in dormancy they may have rotted. They are good size cuttings. I would plant them now that they have roots. Not too deep just cover the roots and the base. Stake them to hold them in place so they don't wiggle.

We should not do this in the US. The food in our grocery markets are highly altered and barely food. We have to go back to the original garden here. They have poisoned everything.
