Grafting Dragon Fruit

Күн бұрын

The day has finally come and after 2 years of growing this Ecuador Palora from a seedling, it’s now time to harvest the fruits of my labor! This now proves that Dragon fruit seedlings can mature and produce fruits faster once grafted onto a mature root stalk. Think of all the possibilities and new varieties that can be created using this method! We will soon have so many new Dragon fruits in our would.
Variety: Ecuador Palora Seedling
BRIX: 20.6%

Wow! Thanks for sharing Richard and great work on the Pelora project. Congratulations on the outcome and I am super excited snd stoked to begin on grafting some seedlings I have. I ate my first Ecuadorian Pelora bought from Ranch 99 in Dublin CA back in June this year and man, love at first bite! I tasted my first dragon fruit ever while in Vietnam (red skin/white flesh) and was not so much excited as it was a bit tart. But that Equadorian Pelora got me eating dragon fruit again! I have some germinated seeds by accident that I found in the compost bin where I threw the Pelora peel. I do have a question if ok to use an unknown root stock (could be red dragon fruit) for grafting? I have a couple lying around given by a relative and would like to use that as root stock…. Thanks again for your work man.. I will follow your procedure to the tee and hope I don’t mess it up.

Hi, would loved to have some of your yellow dragon fruits cuttings,I have one now ordered it in Amazon last summer, but I think it's from seeds not from a matured cuttings,it's in the pot but I'll want something from cuttings, because these are very skinny while growing up.I leave here in VA,I wonder if it's even going to bear fruits here, but our kalamansi is good.maybe I can make it fruit here.

I guess some people thought Palora was some kind of Megalanthus mutant and the seedlings were going to revert to a Colombian yellow, in fact there is a lot of different species of Megalanthus and Palora isn't even the bigger one, the bigger is the Amazonas from Peru. Since Megalanthus are self pollinating isn't weird to see their seedlings being almost equal from the mother plant, I think most of them won't be exactly the same but the differences won't be so easily noticeable either. Also there is a thing called "apomixis" that causes seedlings to be identical genetic clones produced from seeds, I know 20% prickly pear seedlings are exact clones from their parents, and cactuses have a lot of things in common, so I guess DFs should generate clones though seedlings also.

I watched the series now, from what I take you need to have some base already to graft onto? I only grew seedlings from the "regular" white flesh dragonfruit (which is practically the only one we see over here), and they are *very* slowly growing. Though since you're only wearing a shirt in december (when we have ~5°C here in germany), I also guess you need some climate to even get fruit at all ;)
