It's a bit true that not drinking is considered "weird" in Ireland and the UK in general, but they are totally accepting if it's for religious/health reasons. The good ones won't make you feel like a freak, I swear!

All the Irish people I've met have been really cool people. I love the energy many of them usually have and you always have fun with them. I've visited Ireland and I totally love the country apart from the crap weather. I've being living in the UK for some years and British people are in general much colder people but some of them are very nice too.

Non drinkers are seen as an outsider . An enemy . There's a lot of parish mentality here ... Referring to Ireland as part of Britain is asking for a punch in the face given the 800 years of fighting vs oppression and 437 years as slaves to the English.

i was travelling through ireland once and in a very small village in the middle of the day i walked past a pub and a man came out and fell down the stairs bc he was so drunk...stood up and asked ME if I was okay bc i just stood there staring in shock...then he asked me if i wanted to drink ...i ran away haha im from an alcohol loving country as well but that was a little to much for me hahaha

@@salsadip7453 yup that sounds right 😂😂😂 especially in country villages . there's also something called a "lock in". in more rural areas where the pub would lock everyone in and drink until the sun comes up and ignore the regulation of pubs and night clubs to close at 3 am

I understand that the Irish hate being confused with Brits, because as a Polish person, I hate when some people still compare Poland with Russia, when we are like 60-70% ethnically different in DNA actually (and in culture too). By the way, Irish are Celts and Brits are Anglo-Saxons historically. The only remote ethnic connection that Irish have with Brits, is that both have some Viking DNA, but even then, the Viking DNA is different, because the Irish have some NORWEGIAN Viking DNA (because Vikings from Norway settled in Ireland in the year 900), and the Brits have DANISH Viking DNA (and the Viking Danes didn't settle in Ireland, it's the Norwegian ones that settled in Ireland). So even by any aspect of comparing Viking DNA, the Irish are different from Brits even there. And not to mention that Irish are first and foremost CELTS, and not Germanics!

I think maybe it has to do with pre-Christian Irish folk tales about Leprechauns and stuff like that? stereotypically, the Non-Irish people generally associate Ireland with mythologies of Leprechauns in a ginger beard dancing wildly and speaking in a happy-clappy "Topofamornin'toya!" type of accent after finding a pot of gold. I know it's perhaps racist, but hey, it is what it is. Maybe that`s where the Irish Luck (and thus lucky charms) stuff comes from, pre-Christian Irish tales perhaps? Again, I'm no expert though.

Just for the record Lucky Charms was invented in America. It's an American breakfast cereal with an Irish theme. We also learned first and foremost never call the Irish British because they will get mad. It's like calling any Asian person Chinese or calling any Spanish speaker Mexican. It's offensive and rude so don't do it! By the way, Ireland broke away from Britain in 1916.

The colonizers that were given land forcefully taken from the indigenous 350 years agoand live there now are British and make up 50%, the Gaels that have been there for the past 34,000 years are Irish and make up the other 50%- so they can be either British or Irish

Oh, so now it's the woman who is being obnoxious, it's usually the man who is the obnoxious one. One thing to remember is to probably not make so many jokes about things like excessive drinking, and anything related to st patrick's day.
