There are about 500 million smallholder farmers around the world. They produce much of the world’s food using only a small fraction of agricultural land and resources. Ironically, this is the group that suffers disproportionately from hunger, poverty and impacts of climate change. Improving the way small farms are designed and managed so that they’re more productive and profitable is an important mechanism for dealing with these issues in a systemic way.
Emma Naluyima, a farmer in Uganda, has demonstrated that it is possible to produce abundant and diverse food on a one-acre farm while reducing inputs and increasing profits. She does this through the circular management of resources, a focus on healthy soils, and the application of appropriate technology.

This is truly amazing. Have you considered meat rabbits as part of your mix? A second question, where can the composting worms be bought in Uganda?

Arid portions of Africa will benefit greatly from SWRT Solutions subsurface membrane technology which is presently being tested in Kenya. This water and nutrient saving technology is delivering 5 to 7 times more crop on small holder farms.

How do all the volumes get in balance ? i.e. are there approximately enough maggots, for instance, that the chickens eat them all? and the hydroponics produces the right amount of fodder for the animals. Does it scale on a unit?

Luke, Start with the least costly part of the operation and as you make money from that add on the other parts one by one. Problem solved.

Just plan on paper and begin with the least expensive part. Dont you see their chickencoops are just simply made with whatever material available? Start simpel. Dont run getting yourself into debts.
