For those asking what kind of plant it is, the title of the video contains ...growing water convolvulus, so that is what the plant is. Here is what google says about it - Ipomoea aquatica (water convolvulus), called water spinach, or swamp spinach, grows abundantly in tropical regions in Southeast Asia and is used extensively in cuisine in places such as Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia. This ingredient works great in stir-fries, soups, and other dishes where a mild, green flavor would benefit a recipe. Despite its name, water spinach is not really spinach, nor is it related to spinach. It's also not part of the brassica family, so it's also unrelated to kale and its bitter leafy green ilk. Instead, water spinach is part of the morning glory family and has long vine-like stems and bell-shaped morning glory-like flowers. Ipomoea aquatica is known as kangkong in the Philippines, kangkung in Indonesia and Malaysia, rau muong in Vietnam, pak bong in Laos, and trakuon in Cambodia. Its English names include water or swamp spinach; sometimes it's referred to as Chinese water spinach, or ong choy in Cantonese. Water spinach is a semi-aquatic plant that thrives with little or no supervision. In fact, it grows so quickly that it is considered invasive in some regions in the U.S. where it has been introduced, but in Southeast Asia where it is used to cook myriad dishes, water spinach is never invasive. On the contrary, it is perceived as a culinary blessing because it grows so easily and is therefore sold very cheaply. There are many varieties of water spinach; some are shorter than others and the leaves are of different lengths and shapes. All, however, have hollow stalks from which the leaves grow. Both stalks and leaves are eaten. Water spinach is used in stir-fried dishes or added to soups.

Fascinating! I was about to ask if it could grow in Florida, but how invasive is it? Would it not be a good idea to grow that in the Americas? 🤔

If you add an air stone you would be accomplishing four things…. one you would help to make the water a little bit clearer because you would be helping the bacteria to do its job and to grab give you a better crop and you would have healthier fish because they would be able to process oxygen at a higher rate along with your plants benefiting!!! 👩‍🌾

Excellent idea. Unfortunately lacks commentary though to some it may be self explanatory. A few things I would like to know are:- 1. What seeds exactly did you plant in the plastic bottles? 2. What type of fish did you release in the water? 3. What is the name of the feed that you gave to the fish? 4. What is the duration of the project from start to finish? 5. What amount of fish did you harvest? 6. What are the dimensions of the fish pond? 6. What are the various type of fish that you can grow or cultivate using your idea? 7. Do you think this kind of concept would work indoors or specially in buildings dedicated to fish farming using cemented or large plastic containers in buildings designed or dedicated for this purpose? and 8. Finally what is the material cost you have incurred in building this structure and are there any other hidden cost and also mention after how many months can this exercise be repeated? I agree this above questionnaire is rather long but I have special interest in projects of this nature particularly in harvesting tilapias. Please answer and oblige.. Also let me know whether this project serves you and your family only or are you able to do a commercial enterprise? Thank you in advance.

It is a great food source for feeding many type of poultry and livestock, and grow quickly.

Great video. Will try a smaller version myself. Pomoea aquatica is a semi-aquatic, tropical plant grown as a vegetable for its tender shoots. This plant is known in English as water spinach, river spinach, water morning glory, water convolvulus, or by the more ambiguous names Chinese spinach, Chinese watercress, Chinese convolvulus or swamp cabbage, or kangkong/kangkung in Southeast Asia, ong choy (蕹菜) in Cantonese, and kōngxīncài (空心菜) in Mandarin or tung choi (通菜) sometimes in modern Cantonese.[2][3] Its place of origin is not known. Tung Choi Street in Hong Kong is named after this vegetable.

I would recommend to put gravel or sand in the bottles instead of rich soil. First you don't need it here so don't waste it, second you get less problems with algae.

I hear you, but I was just thinking that the soil is probably what they had on hand and it costs less than gravel or sand (here in Texas, that is the case for me). I don't think the soil was all that rich. It looked to have a lot of mulch, needing more nutrients and soil amendment. It will be rich after being in the fish water though --- like how flood plains near rivers are good for growing (except if they flood at the wrong time and ruin a crop, of course). I expect that they don't waste that soil or the water that the fish are in. They probably use it all again elsewhere to grow other things. I don't know for sure, since they didn't indicate that here, and this is the first video of theirs I have watched. But it is what I would do. I had started an aquaponics using little feeder goldfish. They got pretty big and I had some plants. I used some small rocks I had. But the snakes got in and ate all my fish. I haven't figured out how I want to exclude snakes to protect my fish yet --- but while I had it going, I used that water on other plants too, and around in the garden (draining some from the bottom of my fish container and replacing with same amount of rainwater), and the plants sure loved it. Cleaning the roots and algae off those rocks I used (porous rocks, ugh) was harder than throwing the used dirt into the compost or garden would be. I also think that the type of fish and the type of plants can make a difference as to whether using some kind of dirt would work well. Really rich soil would likely cause problems.

Add compost worms and you won’t have to clean rocks
@andiamador7156
@andiamador7156 2 жыл бұрын
@@hanmuz51 Adding the vermiculture (worms) element is very good, if one can get it to work. If the plant containers are small, the worms tend to want to crawl out. I guess the fish can eat them when they do crawl out, but then they won't be in there to clean the rocks. I saw some video on it where the guy put some worm castings in the water, because it has beneficial stuff in it. I think the same person put some borax (tiny bit) in his aquaculture set-up, because it is necessary for plants, and that is usually present in dirt. If I ever get set up again, I think I want to combine these things, having a larger container with dirt and suited plants, and small containers with smooth rocks for suited plants, like lettuces and such. That way, the worms can get themselves situated in the dirt and stay at a good temperature and moisture to suit them maybe (Or have the soil-filled container not be too heavy to place in on the ground in winter, so the worms can get out and go down, and I could replenish them into the container again probably by drawing them back up with some compost under some mulch in the container, or just add some again and put it all back in the water set-up. I could grow something in winter in the container, maybe). The goldfish wintered well, and they had shade in the hot months with a good water depth. I am thinking about using that plastic fencing that has 1/4 inch openings to protect the fish. I just need to figure out how to keep it secure and still be able to access the fish when I need to. The way these guys had the plants and fish at different water levels gives me ideas on some ways to make it work.

Jesus is the key to peace and eternal salvation, those who believe in Him shall find everlasting life and joy, through His sacrifice on the cross can we be healed and saved forever, freed from all sin and burdens, God loves His children and hates the worlds sin, and through His love are we able to be saved, wake up and repent, seek to follow God and live for Him and by His commandments, we have broken them, but God has still been merciful to those who believe in Jesus, for He is the bread of life and whoever so eats from it shall not hunger and never die, escape from the traps of evil, and seek the Lord who is the refuge of those who call out to Him, God bless and seek the Lord, Jesus loves you Jhon 3:16:)

Closer to the Ocean just forget about it way too expensive for farmeing. East coast about the same as west coast. It varies greatly depending on the region. We have already catfish farms in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi. Very large operations youtube catfish farms in US they have good video. This is something different though very interesting to watch.

Thank you for a great video on an interesting project! Just a suggestion for future videos: maybe you can add some labels or explanations. For example: seeds of water convolvulus; catfish; 1 week later; 2 weeks later, etc. It looks like you did not add water at all during the whole planting period? How long was that? I assume this variation of aquaponics works only for plants that like having their roots submerged in the early stages. Like rice? What else? Since I’m a backyard gardener, I’d plant a variety of vegetables rather than just one type. So it would nice to know what else would work.
