I see alot of confusion about the voltages. I'd like to clarify for those who are confused. All cell phones are lithium ion, lithium ion are all 3.7v cells. 3.7v is 0% charge. (4.2v is full charge). A 4.4v power source is needed to charge a lithium cell to 4.2v. (4.4v is actually 4.2v in a closed circuit, aka when plugged into the phone). 3.9v will provide 3.7v closed circuit (aka 0% battery) and the phone won't boot, or will turn off. So, we need an absolute minimum of 4v just for the phone to read anything other than 0% battery. Maximum voltage is 4.4v, Minimum voltage is 4v. You should use the maximum 4.4v if you can, but might be able to get away with as low as 4v. Nothing more, nothing less.

For those who couldn't get this to work on their phone, it won't work on all phones. Some phones incorporate some logic in their batteries that will check with the battery on boot up and not boot up if it detects a problem with the battery. I remember trying to directly hook up before on a sony xperia phone. It would start to boot and reboot at the same point during the boot up sequence.

I would get a cheap universal adapter that outputs 4v or the exact battery voltage, you never know what you're getting with USB, it might be too high for the device and end up damaging it.

I've seen some ghetto ass mods but this one is right up there. Using all the wrong tools, powering the phone at the wrong voltage and wrapping the wires around those pins in a way that's basically a guarantee for them to short out. I'd consider this video a great example of how NOT to perform any mods. Get some proper tools, check what power input your phone actually needs and get a soldering iron.

Testing on LG K7 LTE with LM2596 module. Soldered +ve o/p from module to the 1st Terminal (from left) on the S-Phone AND the -ve (black) to the 3rd. (Not sure if I should connect it to the 4th instead). NO SIGNS OF CHARGING! NOT EVEN REJECTING THE BATTERY. (NOTE: The actual problem was the smartphone Not Recognising the battery for whatever reason. Simply rejected to charge showing it is an INVALID BATTERY, though I've been using it for at least 6months) So I put the old battery upon the soldered pins and tried powering ON. And It DID! :) But dunno if it is ByPassed or not yet. And I wouldn't dare check it now as now it's doing its "Android is Starting: Optimizing apps 1 of ..." Loops. Usually loops 5-6 times on abrupt shutdown/restart before booting to OS. Entering the 5th loop as I type. And I just noticed the voltage dipped to 3.5v (from 4.2v I had set) for the first time. All 4 prior loops was at 4.0v with +/- 0.2v variation. UPDATE 1: Finally Booted to OS HomePage. But shutdown immediately showing INVALID BATTERY. Increased to 4.4v and this time: Tried powering without Battery. Wouldn't Boot. Showed : the Question Mark inside Battery symbol ( meaning No Battery) Tried Again WITHOUT BATTERY This Time Booted for 3 secs and then No Battery Symbol showed up. Suspected improper solder. Tried pulling and the the -ve wire popped out. Gonna do some proper soldering prior testing again now that I know I can get to the OS somehow. The Touch wasn't responding. Without which I don't think I can do what I want from it. But I am testing anyway WIlL UPDATE

Not running with diodes first i applied 2 diodes in series nothing happened then i tried 1 diode phone started but then stoped then started again process goes on then i connected directly and running well. Diode used IN4007 charger output 5v and 0.7A

All my old unchargeables were powerful enough to Bluetooth controllers,, emulate consoles, and display on a monitor. I see an arcade machine taking form in my mind's eye😏 👍

I use 12v PSU and lm2596 modul to make it 4,1v. Not use 4,2v afraid if the voltage is not stable and rises to 4,3

Sorry.. seems this method will slowly destroy the phone itself coz of oversupply voltage.. normally, charging adaptor output 5v while smartphones normally maximum takes around 4.2v. U need a step down converter module for safety measure.

What's the longest your phone stayed running? Without the 3rd wire it will keep on Discharging at lest thinks it is even though the volts are still good. It will turn it off after so many hours. Did you fix this and if so how?

I think this is not a universal fix. You will find that not all mobile batteries will output the 5v that you get out of your USB charger. For example my Samsung 4 battery has a 3.8v output from the battery, and so does my HCT phone. The voltage in these cases must be reduced for it to work.

I'm trying to run a device with HB356687ECW battery like this. Is it even possible? I cant figure out if there are any converters to this battery connector or what the connector is even called. On top of all that I hear that some devices have battery checks that might prevent them from booting even if I somehow add the power wires.

Can you do this with a power bank? Like connect it like you did but instead of hooking it to a charger you hook it to the internal batteries of a power bank and not through the 5V step up circuit.

Don't do this, you are connecting a 5 volt charger to a 3.8 volt input. This has a high chance of just frying your phone!

I think the phone takes the currents it needs. Electric heating is only obtained if the current is higher than 5v (this is how it works on my phone)
