If only the current and dock were like this docking would be simple with zero stress. This situation never exists in real life. It always seems to be current ripping, wind pushing away from the dock, trying to squeeze in between to boats with no extra room. Only advise I can give is keep practicing and never be afraid to do over. And never be afraid to ask for help and always offer help at the dock.

That a system alarm when starting the boat? Shouldn’t you wait till it switches off and rpm gauge go back to zero to start? Not sure just what I was told even though I have accidentally started it quite a few times with no ill effects

Perhaps my perspective is a little different because I own a jet boat. For example in "neutral" you have both no steering control and a slight reverse thrust. So not maintaining positive control at the helm with the engine running is a bad plan. The boat will back itself away

How to never ever leave a dock! NEVER release your lines from the dock and jump on a drifting boat and specially if you are single handed..

Yes. My jaw dropped to the floor. And let’s not forget, not just a drifting boat but a running boat. I see how he got that big bandage over his eye. Probably took a couple of tries before he got the jump down pat. 😂

Those short lines are a great way to insure that you hang your boat under low tide. Or wedge it under the dock.

Coast Guard requires that tossable cushion be out and available...should not be stowed
@garypulliam3740

I don't believe that's true. I think that's a state law and may vary by state. If it's true for all states, a lot of people in S.C. are breaking the law. I'll check, but I believe it can be under the seat as long as the seat stowage isn't locked or clasped. In other words, the seat just lifts up with no other effort but the act of lifting it up.

If you will leave it there for quite some time I would not leave suck short lines. The spring lines keep the boat close to the dock the bow and stern line need to be tied out further to adjust for tides. Boats sink every year because of using short tie offs.

If the tide goes out, with lines tied that short, the boat will be hanging from the dock. The dock lines are way to short.

What a poor example of leaving a pontoon. You let the lines on shore; you had to boat unsecured and you put the life jackets in the hold. Great teaching to learners, Not.
