Aww your chicks are so cutteee! We had a broody silver pencil cochin hen that hatched out multiple chicks a few weeks ago, and they’re starting to get some of their adult feathers 🥺 The chicks are barred Cochins and one tiny pure silver pencil Cochin. We might be getting a few all black cochins too. The other hens would lay their eggs under her. While we are talking about my chickens, I want to talk about one of my favorite hens I own. I have a very snuggly barred rock. She is a small slim hen, and unfortunately in the winter she lost her foot to frostbite. Surprisingly this made her super nice, and she will actually fly onto my shoulder or in the back of my hoodie. A week ago I hand fed her some fruit while I was holding her, and I put her inside with me while I was watching videos on KZfaq. It’s impossible not to like that chicken, I swear. I should probably get going now, feel free to respond. Sorry in advance for any grammatical errors, I am mostly using voice to text. Bye!

I usually put my chicks outside at around 4 to 5 weeks old the main reason is because the weather where i live is pretty nice but if is gonna be like 40 degrees at night i put them back inside the house, i also put my chicks outside when they are young so that the other hens and roosters meet them, if i see a hen being mean ill just put the hen in chicken jail.

Ours stayed outside for the first time last night. 😬🤞 Need to go check on them now! I hope they've been ok, it's 6.15am here now in UK and 5*C. Been acclimatising them over the weeks, first with no heat... right up to having the window open in the room they've been sleeping. Sooo chilly in our shower room of a morning! Amazingly they've been doing great. I hope they've been ok out in their coop all night! 😱😱

would you do a video on how to move chicks from brooder to an outdoor pen for a little playtime and back again? How do you catch them without traumatizing them? By the time I am able to catch one and put into a box, the others are now terrified running around the brooder freaking out. While I'm catching the next baby, the first one flies outta the box 😩🤣😂

How do I mix 10 week old chicks (5) with 20 week olds (3) that are already laying eggs -- from a FOOD standpoint? My run is only 8x10 so I can’t separate them. Do I feed just “grower” food (not sure what that is yet)& supplement the 3 older ones with egg shells?

Hello Chicken Queen, May I pose a question to your highness ? ;) :) I have 3, 8 wk old chicks that grew up with, 3, 6 wk old chicks. Here in the Massachusetts area temps are in the mid to upper 40's at night, so would that still be too cold for them all to be in a small coop together, or would the 8 wk old ones keep them warm enough? The day temps are in the high 50's to the upper 60's and I keep them outside (bowing gracefully) Thank you ;) :)

I moved my chicks to their coop and kept them on there 24/7 for 11 days. Then I introduced them to the run.They seem very happy however they are eating quite a bit less. There is no more am feeding frenzy. Could it be they were bored in the coop and ate out of boredom? Or they are foraging in their sizable run and satiated? Their run has lots of chickweed and I throw in some garden scraps (spinach, parsley, carrot tops).

I need your advice, Madame President. My chickens have been successfully brought outside into their new run. They are doing well and they have adjusted to the Texas heat due to the things that you have taught me throughout past months. My problem is that I cannot get them to go into their coop. They just won't. I have the door to the coop open and the door to the run underneath shut and they still won't go up the ramp and out the door. And I still have to put them in there every night physically. They huddle by the outside door of the main run if I don't. Any thoughts? I know you're busy but you are the chicken guru.

Mrs. President I have an urgent question!! My baby chick can’t stand or walk but it does not have splayed legs because it’s feet are together but it’s toes are curled and it’s fingers are swollen! We put bandaid’s instead of tape and a rubber band between its feet, and the next day it was walking fine so we took it out, and today I woke up it’s swollen and even worse. I have posted pictures on backyard chicken websites. I’m just bummed out and feel bad for it.😭

Is it safe to not use heat with full grown Silkies in freezing winters? (months of snow and freezing temps) I had planned to use a radiant heater in the coop because I thought their feathers didn't keep them as warm as a other breeds?
@WelcometoChickenlandia
@WelcometoChickenlandia 3 жыл бұрын
If you live in an area where there are months of freezing temps I would use a radiant heater in the coop for breeds that aren’t as cold hardy. I’ve never had an issue where I live, but I don’t live in a area where the temps are extreme. That would be the “special circumstances” I was referring to.
