When you are a new trader to the stock market and just getting started, as a beginner (like anything in life), practicing is a huge part in creating a skill. When it comes to practicing and learning how to trade stocks to make money online, an extra degree of caution needs to be understood since there is the potential to lose money. Because of this fact, it is important to focus on strategies and approaches that allow you to practice trading stocks as safely as possible. In this video I will walk you through a step-by-step process designed to help you identify and select stocks that will give you safety when practicing. I've been coaching and guiding new traders since 2013 and I've seen the same mistakes happen over and over again when beginner traders are attempting to practice. Let me show you how to avoid some of these common mistakes and help you learn how to trade in the safest way possible.

I started day trading at the start of this year and as a beginner I can tell you what Clay describes here is the best way to start. Starting with a simulator to learn the platform is a good idea, but once you have the basics down you really need to trade with real money looking to risk around $10 max. The issue with simulators is they don't give you realistic buy and sell prices and you tend to not feel the same emotion when no real money is on the line. I remember the shock I felt the first time I put a buy order in to have it fill 20 cents over (sims always fill at your price with no slippage). I then tried to do limit orders only with +5 cent spreads and saw my orders get completely skipped on move ups which was frustrating as hell. (Again sims always fill your price and never get skipped). You have to trade with real money in order to experience the real feeling of the market to learn how to do deal with your emotions when they arise. Just make sure it's a small amount to start. Even at $10 risk I can assure you will still feel all of the same emotions you would feel losing $100. I remember telling myself I would never revenge trade and then finding myself doing it after getting stopped out by an HFT flash down on a trade that ripped higher. It takes practice but with time you start to get better with dealing with unfortunate circumstances or even getting over excited when you win. Both can be a curse.

Why did your order get skipped on? or why does that happen? It happened to me too. I'm trying to figure it out. Anyone know?
@gregdolley9189
@gregdolley9189 4 жыл бұрын
@@daytraderfidel395 It's because in live trading you're actually buying/selling real stock from a market maker or another trader. While in a SIM, it's just pretending that the stock was available to buy/sell at the price and quantity you wanted. In real life, there may not have been the size available at the price you wanted. In that case, you obviously won't get filled (or best case, there are some shares available, but less than what you want, so you get a partial fill [unless your order type is FOK, Fill-or-Kill, which means fill the entire quantity at my price, otherwise don't give me any]). There can be another reason you aren't filled: the price is moving so fast that the price you see on your screen is already obsolete. Meaning, you see one price, but a microsecond later the price has changed, but your computer doesn't show the new price until half a second later. It's almost like we're all trading with delayed quotes. Sure, it says "real-time ", but in reality even if your computer gets an updated quote 1/10th of a second later, that's still "delayed" in this world of purely electronic exchanges (which is almost everything now).

@@rubenpilmeyer2317 Not enough to live on if that is what you are wondering. This isn't a get rich quick business like a lot of youtube videos will make you believe. Don't get me wrong there are people who have taken $1000 to $250,000 but it's not as easy as they say. It's just marketing to get you to watch/click. In truth day trading is like learning any other skill. It takes a lot of time and practice before you will be good at it. I've been swing/core trading stocks since 2017 but I made the commitment this year to do day trading every day from 6:30am-8:30am (Pacific time) before work to learn it in hopes of making it into a profitable business (I already own one profitable business, but want to branch out). I have a trading plan I wrote up before I started with my play book/strategies I look for and I don't plan on being good at trading for at least 2 years. Starting with small risk is going to allow me to sustain these two years without blowing up my account.

Hey Clay, love your videos, please keep making them! One suggestion though for this video: I think you should have bought 1 share, or 10, or whatever, of Tesla just so beginners can see both T and TSLA stacked on top of each other in the P/L window, which would show them an "apples-to-apples" comparison of slow-mover vs. super volatile stock. I'm not a beginner, but if I was, I wouldn't fully grasp the difference between "mud stock" movement and FANG stock movement. But if I were to see them side-by-side in your P/L window, then I'd "click" for me. Showing beginners that, even if you buy just 1 share of AMZN or TSLA or whatever, you could be up or down by 20, 30, or even 75 dollars in just one trading day, would be a valuable thing to see.

Clay I am in my second year of live trading and use and understand a lot of indicators, but in all that time I have never figured out how to use the volume one you have in every chart you show. I use the RSI and macd with histogram as they are easy to understand and quite accurate. On the chart itself I use the bollingers and the 200 moving average. What do you see in the volume indicator I do not see in the ones I use?

Is the market makers number directly correlated to the volume of a stock? I've seen that in the Yeti stock the volume was very low in comparison to the AT&T stock. And are there high volume stocks that have a big spread as well or do they tend to have a smaller spread? Really informative video Clay, thanks a lot.

@@claytrader Hey, thanks for wanting to answer my question! I very much appreciate it. I'm trying to learn and subscribed to your channel. :) I am asking the following: At 7:49, you drew a rectangle and showed an increase from $36.35 to $36.60 (an increase of 25 cents) for T. Then, for YETI, at 8:37, you drew another rectangle (roughly from $29 to $29.45) with an increase of 45 cents. Then, you repeated this for ROKU at 9:15, showing an increase of $1.20 (roughly from $113 to $114.20). Your point in all this was, (I believe) that T is the least risky, followed by YETI, followed by ROKU because of the size of the moves (25 cents vs 45 cents vs $1.20). But I am confused as to how you arrived at the size of the move (i.e. the size of the rectangle you drew). To me, as a beginner, it looked as if the size of the rectangle you drew was just arbitrary, but I'm sure it wasn't. So I want to know what you based it on. Thank you in advance! :)
