Deep in a cloud forest far, far away are the planet’s last remaining Skywalker gibbons. These small members of the apes family were only identified in 2017 (by, you guessed it, a Star Wars fan), but already they’re endangered. ↠Subscribe: kzfaq.info...
Now, researchers in south-west China have developed an ingenious technique for getting gibbons from different territories to meet and form a partnership - these Skywalkers mate for life. Join us to see how technology can be used as a Force for good to help protect this vanishing species.

The amazing story around the Skywalker gibbons stems from the discovery by a scientist. However, did you know that most new species these days are actually discovered by amateurs? Have a look at Minute Earth's newest video for more: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eJuWh8KgzanQZmw.html

@@Zantides Nope. Apes and monkeys are all primates (and, more specifically, dry-nosed primates), but there are key differences between them. For example, monkeys have tails and apes don’t. Apes also have larger brains, longer arms and shortened thumbs. While monkeys walk on top of branches when in the trees, apes move through the trees by swinging below the branches. Examples of apes are chimpanzees, orangoutangs, gorillas and bonobos. Apes (specially chimps and bonobos) are also more closely related to humans than monkeys.

I'm living in Yunnan.Thank you so much for making this video🙏🏻My deepest appreciation. Their number is lower than wild pandas.Thank you for allowing the world to pay more attention to other endangered species other than pandas. Because of rampent commercialization and rampent urbanization(destruction on nature),various plants and animal species are facing disapoear. That's why the viruses(SARS and Covid-19) can not survive in the wild and try to host on humanbeings.Because the viruses used to host on wild animals can not find enough hosts anymore. How human treat Earth, nature and other lives is how we treat ourselved. We are one.🙏🏻

This is an awesome display of technology's power for good. (That is awesome as in "awe inspiring", not the colloquial way the word is bantered about.) Win or lose, this species was *most likely* given one more generation on this planet, and that could be the tipping point for such a small number of breeding pairs. I hope the scales tip in their favor, but even if they do not this story put a genuine smile on my face.
