Aurélien Brulé moved to Indonesia to save the gibbons--small tree-dwelling monkeys whose native forests are being ravaged by oil palm production and who are then often captured and kept as pets, or held captive in deplorable conditions..
A crew of mariners, scientists and filmmakers are followed as they cast off on the Sedna IV, an oceanographic schooner, to sail around the world exploring the beauty of nature, how ecosystems work and conservation challenges facing the planet.

Isn’t always true that their teeth are cut by hacksaws. Most of them are extracted. This man is a bit frantic and full of himself. He has fast paced information, which reeks a little bit too PETA. These pairs could be sent to zoos where they can be protected, brought to health and reproductive centers are very important for species survival. To be returned to the wild population where Gibbons thrive. He is way to frantic and knows very few options. They need a better team leader.

It’s unsurprising that there are people who don’t care about the animals because we are raised to believe only human lives are sacred. Education and information are pivotal in changing the world.

its a common thing in areas that humans live in close proximity to wild gibbons for a gibbon to adopt a human family and basically if allowed will claim them as there own. There are many cases of this one day the gibbon will just come into the house like its there own and start grooming one of the family members truly amazing.

Thank you for your interest in the world problem which we all will regret. Just look at the Chesapeake bay, who would have ever thought that we would over greedy fish crab lobster shrimp oysters clams and anything else that they catch. And this group of people all have enough money for the next 4 or 5 generation.. More than enough money to live on. As long we have the greedy getting more and more and then you have the poor who can't even put the kids to bed with a meal on stomach.

Unfortunately its not just palm oil but a lot of other commodities as well that people have come to rely on . What is driving owners to produce the oil ? Often its not just greed but dwindling recourse and a lack of other viable ways of earning a living wage . Maybe its a family business they were born into and all they know . You have to trace to problem to its root and provide them with education and other alternatives .

Agreed. For me the best way to listen was to turn the volume low enough that the quieter French was impossible to hear, but I could still hear the English. Otherwise, its hard to focus on the English because my brain keeps trying to comprehend the background French. And I'm a 2nd language learner of French who's semi-fluent. I can only imagine how distracting this would be for fully bilingual English/French speakers, or even worse - native French speakers who are semi-fluent in English.

Wouldn’t a programmed drone do more to check a larger area then your maned flying thing you have? I don’t know if it would work with gibbons as it did with these very rare wild cat, who when put together the male would kill the female that was not in heat and all other males in their territory. They put a group together when they were baby’s and that way they grow up together and they have had great success and no killings by a dominant male. They did not think it would work but it did!!!

I don't buy anything with Palm oil , I now triple check beauty products, food, anything with a label of ingredients on it. I refuse to buy anything with palm oil and contribute to this nightmare. I strongly urge others to not buy palm oil products even if it says safely sourced environmentally friendly sourced however they word it please don't buy products with palm oil. It may seem small but if enough people stopped buying the palm oil products then it will slow down sales slow down the need slow down production. We have to make up our minds about what's really important and I think saving the forest and all the animals in it are of greater importance than a bottle of conditioner or makeup products

Why can’t they be released into a different locale that would support their needs, like forests here in the USA? Granted, it would be ideal to keep them in the area of which they are native to, but to save this whole species, why not introduce them here in the USA, where they would be protected? I think the same thing about orangutans.

My wife is Filipina and as an American in the Philippines it is quite similar to Indonesia as the locals there are so 'dirt poor' they HAVE TO live off the land and work in whatever they can and so they become the labor to cut-down the trees/fish/ farm etc. (China has The Factories!) But it always IS the Rich families of any country that are behind the Big Land management AND EXPLOITATION and they also, essentially ARE the Governments of these countries (Same here in US!) OK- what's to be done: Personally I say this to you all- 'open your eyes'- see what is Going ON not just in land deforestation but Planetary Collapse- fires in Europe & US/Flooding/ hurricanes/ millions & millions of peopleS 'on the run'/virise's & more- now simply read (Mat.24.1 as Christ IS RETURNING as these "signs" bare witness!) And as you read- Ask to find The Truth and you will- you'll become Re-Born and there's A Whole New Better World Coming- this is The answer! HalleluYAH

Wow did you even watch the video, he explained it 3 times. These are gibbons that were captured and kept as pets, they don't know how to live out in the wild forests he rescues them and teaches them how to survive in a forest and the gibbons that learn how to survive he releases, but the gibbons that have a hard time learning how to survive he can't release because they would die in the wild. This guy is doing an amazing job trying to give these gibbons the best life possible, if humans wouldn't take baby gibbons and sell them as pets he wouldn't have to do this. So I don't know why you complaining about him?. If he could he would release all of them but they would die in the wild.
