In last week's tutorial, I shared how I've shown logo options to freelance clients in the past. This week's video discusses what happens after the logo has been approved by your client. We'll take the approved logo and save it in file formats for print and web to cover any scenario for your client.

Hey Valerie! it won't let me reply directly to you, so I'll post it here if you come back! To change a bunch of spot colors to CMYK at once, first make sure your color mode is set to CMYK (file > document color mode > CMYK). Next, select all of the colors you want to change (click and drag a big rectangle with your mouse) then go to Edit > Edit Colors > Convert to CMYK :)

Thank you soo much for this video! This helped me so much. I recently created a design using all spot colors because it is for speciality printing; however, now the manufacturer is saying CMYK is the best. Is there a way to convert all the colors to CMYK at one time? There are a lot of colors, and I want to save time instead of having to convert each color one by one.

Thank you for this video. It was very well done and your manner of talking and flow is very clear and easy to follow. I have a question in regards to something you mentioned in the video. If while using the magic wand tool I find that a color I clicked on doesn't have any values in the CMYK color window, but it does when I use the eyedropper tool, what does that mean? Is there something wrong with how I colored that object? Will I have trouble with printing?

Good morning Teela, first may I say your Tutorial is AMAZING! 3.25 into the video where you talk about the colors. There is part of my logo that is Gradient, is it normal for nothing to show up for numbers in there? I made sure that when choosing the color for it that the numbers were exactly the same as any other color within the logo. Will this be ok? :)

This has been tremendously helpful, thanks Teela. Your approach is coherent and makes following the process a pleasure. Taking various scenarios into account is certainly not a bad idea. What though would be the distinction and reason for preparing both SPOT and CMYK files?
@EveryTuesday
@EveryTuesday 8 жыл бұрын
+Des Creat It all depends on the client - working with larger brands, they'll have their logos on everything in any print scenario you can think of, so I always provide more than needed to cover any kind of application (that way I won't have to revisit that work later :)

I don't see a save for web option under my file tab on my version of Ai. When I start a new file I have a choice to set it up with what I want including RGB or the CMYK are my only choices. I am just 2 months into learning Ai. All of this gets a bit overwhelming at times. This video here may or may not be what I am looking for. I need to learn how to adjust the size of my logo so that it fits nicely in the signature section of my email page and other applications. As it is now I get this white box overlapping everything. If I make it smaller then the logo gets smaller. All pf the videos I have watched I see a difference in function depending on which version of Ai is being used.

Thanks for making these videos, how to save files isn't the most exciting subject but it's definitely important to know if you want to provide a professional service. As a follow up can I ask why you set the Jpeg quality to 65% rather than 100?
@EveryTuesday
@EveryTuesday 9 жыл бұрын
Sigh, I know! It's definitely the least exciting video I've made, but it *is* really important! Every time you increase the quality, you increase the file size, and file size is crucial when it comes to web images because it slows down website load times as a whole. I've found 65 to be a good point in most things I've done where if you increase it any more, the difference is so small it's hardly noticeable, and it still keeps image size down. :)

Hi, I’ve been creating images in Procreate on my iPad then using trace within Adobe Illustrator to vectorize the image and i save it as Ai format. But I’ve been told that it’s not a true vector graphic. Am i missing something?
@EveryTuesday
@EveryTuesday 6 жыл бұрын
If you've vectorized the image using Illustrator (object > image trace > make), then it's a true vector graphic

Teela Cunningham thank you for replying! That’s what I thought, but the company I’m trying to have print the image on a shirt is saying that I’ve only “outlined” the image. Which I don’t understand... But I guess it’s on their end. Thank you again for your help :)

+Jeppe D My history of preparing artwork has been for very large clients with many needed uses - in an effort to cover every base in a vid like this, I thought it best to always include more than needed :) It's definitely dependent on client expectations or needs - I also like avoiding having to go back to past work to deliver things they may encounter needing :) Thanks for checking it out!

And what's the difference between the Pantone + CMYK Coated and just 'Pantone Coated'? Thanks again, I love your videos!
@EveryTuesday
@EveryTuesday 9 жыл бұрын
+Molly Yang Hey Molly! There's Pantone Coated + Uncoated, and then just CMYK. You would use pantone colors for specialty printing (like letterpress) whereas you would use CMYK for digital printing (like a laser printer or ink jet printer print out) - hence the benefit of sending both to your client, so whichever type of printing they'd like to use a logo on, they have the correct file to do it :) Coated + Uncoated just means the type of paper you're using - if you're using a paper without any kind of coating on it, you should reference pantone uncoated chips to make the most accurate color choices.
@mollyyang172
@mollyyang172 9 жыл бұрын
Oh OK thanks; the 'Pantone + CMYK' color book confuses me (in the dropdown menu in 'color books') What would you use the color book called 'Pantone + CMYK' for? I understand the Pantone Uncoated and Coated.. just not the '+CMYK' versions. Thanks again and sorry for all the questions!

@EveryTuesday

+Molly Yang No problem! That's a great question! I've never used it before, but it looks like those colors are set to global process CMYK color builds, but that you can convert them to a spot/pantone directly from there - so you would know that if your CMYK matches that build, it converts directly to a spot/pantone color. Never even noticed that before since I only ever use Pantone Coated/Uncoated - sorry I can't give you a more descriptive answer!

I am wondering why do you recommend to set the quality 65% instead of 100%?
@EveryTuesday
@EveryTuesday 4 жыл бұрын
The difference in the appearance from 65% to 100% is so minor, that having a reduced file size is a greater priority when it comes to web images if you weigh those two options.
