My wife has been battling breast cancer since October 2022. Finally she's in remission, but we have taken a large hit to our savings. I've spent about $40K out of pocker in 2023. I'm glad I'm a saver because her cancer diagnoses was unexpected and the chemo, radiation & surgeries didn’t take us under. I still have about $97K in my HYSA, so I am thankful for that.

You are ON POINT my bestie!!! As someone 10 years ago who was 30,000 in credit card debt , I knew I was the problem. I felt so good about paying it off and getting out of debt that I then saved up enough to buy my house! This year, I challenged myself to become one year ahead in my bills. So this year, I went on no spend months, doing saving challenges, selling on ebay and I have SAVED so far this year about $34,000 , (goal is $40,000) You are right! You can do it if you have the right mindset !!

Savings challenges do work. Although I do say “if it wasn’t for bad luck I wouldn’t have any luck at all”; I was able to pay for a new stove (because ours quit), and $600 in unexpected medical expenses without touching our savings. I’m calling it a win. 🎉

I finally started budgeting in October. When I sat down, I realized that I can actually save approximately $400/month. It took my basement flooding and my water heater to bust for me to figure this out. If it wasn’t for my son helping me with these expenses, I probably wouldn’t have gotten serious about budgeting. Now I’m helping him budget as well.

I just put in the numbers for my store bought coffee… if i stay on buying a 3.50$ coffee 3x a week I’ll be spending about 75$ per month 💀 I thought I was being some what smart not going to a coffee shop too. My goal is to save 45$ a week (up from my current $25) and I was wondering where i was going to find the extra 10$ to pitch in but now I definitely found it 🤣 I will NOT be giving Starbucks 75$ a month

Preach! It’s about doing HARD things. It’s PB&J for a week, sell plasma, selling to Clothes mentor, gathering coins from your car, couch and drawers and rolling them to take to bank, going longer between haircuts. Yes it’s HARD but it’s worth the security of having something in savings rather than nothing. Thanks for saying hard things in love bestie!

Donating plasma isn’t that much more strenuous than donating blood. First they take your blood, then it goes through a lil machine to take out the plasma and then it gets IV’d back to you. It feels a little cold lol. But they give you like $150 or something the first time and then like $100 every week after that…. I only did it like 10 times in a row so I don’t know what it’s like to donate long term

Managing money is different from accumulating wealth, and the lack of investment education in schools may explain why people struggle to maintain their financial gains. The examples you provided are relevant, and I personally benefited from the market crisis, as I embrace challenging times while others tend to avoid them. Well, at least my advisor does too, jokingly.

Investors should exercise caution with their exposure and exercise caution when considering new investments, particularly during periods of inflation. It is advisable to seek guidance from a professional or trusted advisor in order to navigate this recession and achieve potential high yields.

Due to my demanding job, I lack the time to thoroughly assess my investments and analyze individual stocks. Consequently, for the past seven years, I have enlisted the services of a fiduciary who actively manages my portfolio to adapt to the current market conditions. This strategy has allowed me to navigate the financial landscape successfully, making informed decisions on when to buy and sell. Perhaps you should consider a similar approach.

I have ADHD too. Some things I do that help me with is make saving and paying debt off a game. We chase dopamine and that gives me a similar buzz as shopping . To help me stick to my budget I went to dollar tree and bought a jot 6pocket check organizer. I labeled the pockets groceries, gas, receipts, treat, monthly budget tracker, notes (note pad and pen in there), and treat. I take cash out every month in cash for those categories. I then keep my cards like debit card in a change purs with a zipper. And then put that in a pocket with a zipper in my bag. This way it takes longer for me to take my card out and it gives me a few extra seconds to think. Helps with impulsiveness. You got this!!! Check out how to ADHD . Great resource .

I'm clawing out of debt. I also want to manage my money and my shopping sddiction brtter. And I finally sat down and was like, alright, listen, self, we gotta talk. My "eating out" is now $20/mo. Groceries is now $140/mo. And I do pick up orders so I don't grab random things and end up spending past my budget. I gotta get it together and I think everything has finally clicked. (On this the 10th month of my 37th year but that's beside the point.) No more books or games. I have a "no spend" tracker that I color in every day that I don't spend (on unnecessary things) and I'm at 8 days so far. For someone with a shopping addiction, that's pretty good! Hoping to go the entire month without spending and then just keep carrying it on! I can do this because I have to! Thank you!! ❤❤❤

My tips: skip a meal/fast or only eat twice a day; have a super inexpensive meal 1-2 times a week like baked potatoes with toppings or rice and beans: stop doing nails and pedi’s; skip coffee/tea out and make it yourself and have a money jar to show yourself money going to you instead instead of to someone else; limit movie rentals to 1 per month or watch only free ones; find a consignment place and do a major decluttering of your closet and jewelry; eat all your food in the freezer you have been passing by; learn to cut your own hair or extend your cuts to only several months keeping a simple hairstyle; pray and ask God to bring in extra funds ( make sure you are in a personal relationship with him); dilute your laundry detergent by up to half extending it twice as long; pick up change on the street, find Someone your size and swap or borrow clothes for a time and do a budget every month. Change who mentors you instead switch to people wise with money, gifting, decluttering, side gig helps, food saving tips etc. Watch your money, contentment and countenances grow.

I just started saving 💰 to save $1,000 for an emergency saving account. I'm doing the roll the dice saving challenge as a starting point. Also my work 401k company offered a rainy day account that is automatically deducted from my paycheck. Of course I signed up right away so every week I'm going to save $26. I feel like it was the most perfect timing for this service since I made the commitment to save $1000. I think it was God giving me a sign.

Next time, consider getting a CD from a bank or credit union. Back in the day, the smallest CD you could get was $1000 but I understand there are some $500 CD's. CD's come with different terms and rules for due dates, penalties if you cash them out early, roll over, amd more. While you are saving up again, I suggest checking in at different banks and credit unions in your area to see what type of CD'S each offers.

All true and great advice! If you’re in a tough spot like me, one thing I did was return items that still had tags on them. I was able to get refunded around $500 back onto my credit cards (stuff I thought I absolutely needed when I purchased them 🙄). Even if the items are past the return window or I didn’t have a receipt, I could still get store credits. That especially helped me out at Walmart and target because I could then buy groceries and essentials with the store credit. And I no longer go to a store or the mall just to ‘look’

As soon as a person gets their financial situation together, or their money start looking better than it was before (raises, promotions, etc), then others wanna change up and throw in your face of having your back when you were down, more like a bit of jealousy because those eyes can turn green in no time! My money saving tip is I have been doing grocery pick-up since covid. I have been able to budget better on groceries that way since I'm not impulse buying when in the store or shopping hungry. When i need produce or meat then I'll stop at the grocery store. I clip coupons on their app and do their rewards program. I'm so glad to find your channel. Looking forward to saving more for year 2024!

Also I want to thank you for your channel its sooo inspiring and refreshing you’re very informative kind uplifting and transparent!! I am a new subscriber/bestie and I LOVE your content!!!!

As far as clothes, when You get the urge to shop/ window shop, is to have a shop your closet party. Fun music, take everything out of closet and re/mix all your clothes, accessories and shoes to come up with new outfits. Take pictures of yourself in the outfit etc. you’ll see you already have plenty

Having savings automatically drafted and into a high interest CD worked for me to save. It goes in, generates interest, and I can’t touch it till the cd expires. You should do a video on compound interest. I feel like a lot of people just don’t know. 😊💰

I just got my rent down by moving in with two roommates. I am 35 years old and it's ok. I am saving so much money on this. On the same time I just spent 8 bucks on popcorn that I didn't even like. It's a progress ❤ and a process. Don't be too angry with yourself!

I did find that doing the cash method worked for me. It was always home, as I am hardly home, I wasn't able to spend it. Because if it is in the savings and I can transfer, baby I am going to transfer. I started my journey last year when my car broke down coming from my son's football game. I was an hour away from home and had to leave my car on side of the highway. I didn't have any money to get it towed or fixed. Luckily I had a friend who was able to loan me the money, but that opened my eyes and I said I don't EVER want to be in that space again.

I think the number one action you can take to start saving money is to set goals. Long term and short term. It becomes far easier when temptation hits or when you are weak for whatever reason to have motivation to stay on track. Having goals will give you that motivation. Seperating wants from needs and being honest with yourself you can find little bit here little bit there it adds up.

Also, remember your W4's as well! You can have your employer take a few dollars out of your paycheck every pay day to give to the IRS to go to federal taxes so you can get a bigger refund during tax season. I've been doing that the past couple of years. So it's helped me by a few hundred. 😅😊

I'm on low-income what I do to save money it helps say I spend 6.28 rounded up to $7 in my checkbook. I'll subtract the $7 from the 628 and put it in another book and whatever the balance then if I have to pay a bill whatever the pennies is I round it off to the next bill at the end of the year I was surprised and how much money I saved in the checkbook.

Great video! I’ve gained a lot by watching your videos and the straight talk is what we need to hear. I know that I was the problem with overspending before but one day I “woke up” and just said STOP. I am the reason for being in debt. I can try to blame the economy, the politics and the fact that my parents never talked about money to us kids, but I’d still be fooling myself. I am where I am because I chose to spend and not save. I gave myself the butt-whooping I needed and changed my thought process and my spending habits. I still make some errors now and then but I no longer beat myself up. I learn from my mistakes and keep looking ahead. I got a roommate and a second job. All income received from them goes to debt repayment. I hope to be out of debt (except my mortgage) by 2025. Keep the good stuff coming…every little bit helps in planning our financial future.

Thank you so much for sharing these tips!! And everything you mentioned is so true. Getting your finances together is totally a mindset thing and it's so hard to change when no one taught you in the beginning. Unfortunately I am going through a divorce and will be moving back in with my mom. At first I was thinking that this is a step back but giiirl, I have written everything down I want to do while living with my mom (paying my car off, building my emergency fund, saving for a down payment on a house, and etc) Who knows...this could have been the very thing I needed to start over fresh. Thanks again for sharing.

I used to do the whole put money in savings then pull it out again, so I opened a Capital One account separate from my regular checking at a different bank. I have no debit card for the Capital One account. I do an electronic transfer when I get paid into separate accounts I have set up for Christmas, vacation, and misc expenses like car repairs and registration. I takes two days for money to go from one account to the other, so I can’t just impulsively transfer money back to my checking account. This has helped me so much. I haven’t had to worry about how I’m going to pay for Christmas in years and it’s been great!

Gurl! You were talking directly to me. I hear you, I see you sister. I am the problem 😂 getting back to cash envelopes truly was a game changer in savings. Just started with savings challenges and tracking the savings. Have gone from under $50 a month to nearly $200. Just by paying attention - to my spending AND excuses. I'm here for it. Drop those hard truths, I'll pick them up, may be with some side eye but without truth you can't grow. ❤

The day before I get paid, I transfer every penny into savings. Then when I’ve been paid, I round my savings up to the next £10. I get paid 3 times every 4 weeks, then I get paid interest every month and I’ll make that up to the next £10. I am also overcoming hoarding so once a week I work out what I would’ve spent on the food ant toiletries etc and put that money into the savings account too. I put it all into an account that pays 4% per year interest but it pays it monthly. But if you take money out, the interest drops to 2% per month and that’s a good deterrent for me. I’m saving up for surgery which will be costing me £15400.

Didn't see the poll but I just closed out our September budget yesterday. I showed the family the percentage of which categories cost the most for us per month. My husband said that the cost of food has doubled along with the cost of gas but our income has not doubled. What we could do in 2019, 2020 regarding "extra things", there is no way to do them in 2023. The elephant in the room: elections have consequences. Thank you for all the encouraging financial management videos and the support out there that we can make it through to victory fighting a system that is bound and determined to keep us down. Pay your tithes, pray and may God help us.
