Was in a Japanese grocery store the other day. Uwajimaya in Renton Wa. They had these 5L jars for making pickles. Wide mouth glass jar with plastic lid. $12. Probably should’ve picked one up n tried it. Shaped p much like the 1G fermenters from north mountain just 5L instead of 1G.

honestly I'd love to try it out myself, all my fermenters that are larger than 1 gallon are plastic and a glass sounds great. My only issue is I have my brewing in my basement and I'd worry that an open lid ferment would cause that funky basement smell to infuse into the mead. It hasnt happened in the slightest in the past but I've always been very careful about a tight seal. Amazing deal though!

Hi,I have a question.What could be the reason for yeasty teast in a mead?It finished fermentation and I pasterised it,and it still has a bit of a yeasty afterteast.

Either it didn't all flocculate out or it needs more time or fermentation was not actually finished. Or all three!

After fermentation, did you rack to a secondary container to age for a while? Or did you pasteurize right after fermentation and then taste? If that's what you did, I'd fully expect there to still be a yeasty flavor.

I was super excited about this :( But I am having a hard time finding this worth it when shipping for just the one (as I only have space for 1) is $30. Like shipping is twice as much as the fermenter itself

Amazon has everyone spoiled 😀. They just charge shipping cost, NMS doesn't add to it, that's how much it really costs to ship things.

It's totally fine for either. Open fermentation has been done for thousands of years and this has a cover so it's not even open fermentation.

They're kinda cool, but not going to try my luck with an open container. Not too worried about not using an airlock (though I definitely prefer to), it's been done that way for literal millenia. But I'm 1000% going to slop it everywhere if I don't have a lid. LOL

Nope, that will hold pressure in and that's not what you want during fermentation. It comes with cheesecloth and a rubber band, perfect for fermenting.

It's the same for me living in New Zealand. Over the years there have been an endless number of cheap items I would have liked to get off of Amazon, but the shipping turns out to be unbelievably high 😂

I’ve tried and they won’t even entertain the idea of shipping outside the USA when I go in. I’ve even written to them and it’s a hard “no”. You can get a company to ship onto you but I guess that’s where the high postage cost come from.
