You are surprised at how dry the reading is after sweetening, but consider how many points of gravity you added to get there. It was significantly below 1.000, but you still posted it over 1.000.

Make wine in the tardis with the raised edge pitcher! I do own that (bought through you guys btw thanks!) And can confirm while it seems like a little thing the raised numbers make a significant difference

You kidding? Fully half the reason to have kids is for the free labor. And if you don't believe that going in, you will once you've waited on them hand and foot for 5+ years until they are capable of doing things on their own. Then you give them things to keep them occupied and out of trouble. Like chores! lol I wonder if my local Whole Paycheck has these grapes, I could make some SERIOUS brownie points with my mother.

If you cook its easier to brew as season to taste and sweeten to taste makes sense. Yea, when ya are doing a lot of brewing, notes and a checklist are your best friend.

Isn't it due to the low starting gravity of 0.988 that it tasted "quite" sweet, or sweet enough at 1.006? That's a 0.0126 delta after all, not quite as high as the 0.022 points you guestimated but still . And might the watery mouth feel also be due to the fact that the final gravity was so close to that of water? Thank as always for the awesome video you guys! And can't wait to get my hands on some moscato grapes and try this at home ;)
@CitySteadingBrews
@CitySteadingBrews 16 сағат бұрын
Sweetness is relative to 1.000 so higher is sweeter, lower is dryer. It was not that watery... we have to give descriptors and it was slightly watery, very slightly. Mouth feel is affected by viscosity and tannin content.

I want to use this recipe. I've had a lot of requests for blueberry wine. But sweetened... not dry. When yall were considering sweetening, how much sugar were you gonna use to back sweeten? I know you do it taste preference, but i just wanted your opinion on how much you would've used.
@CitySteadingBrews

We would use enough until we liked it. We don't put a measurement in it because it doesn't really work that way.

I purchased a 6 glln German Riesling kit about a month ago. I am making a 2 gallon batch of it first. The initial gravity was less than what it should have been in the instructions so I added Honey to bring up the Gravity 20 points. I racked on the 4th of July, It has a great taste.

I don't know I've made wine for 7 years in a row and I've never washed my grapes whatever it came in the crate I dumped the whole thing in stems leaves shriveled up grapes and it always came out good washing it takes away from the natural fermentation which is when you crush the grape it releases the sugar and the bacteria on the skin of the grape eats the sugar and that's what produces alcohol so if you wash the grapes then you have to put in yeast I did it naturally 100% 7 years came out fine
@CitySteadingBrews
@CitySteadingBrews Күн бұрын
Because we are a teaching show and we cannot know where people are getting their fruit, we recommend washing it. Wild yeast is less consistent than commercial yeast and again, as a teaching show we want to give viewers the highest chance for success.

I got my pitcher and hellz bellz that thing is great. It takes most of the guesswork out of bottling. It's also rather sturdy so I don't have to be concerned about any deformation while pouring. My biggest problem is keeping my husband from using it for something else. I might have to get him his own.

Great video as always, very informative. Muscato is my wife's favorite... guess what's on the list. I also used your video to make strawberry wine for our 4th party, themed 1776 (so homemade was the way to go), and it was a big enough hit I'll have to make it again if I want any more.
