Ty, so much, Maria. I have recently discovered my love of desert roses and I found two with remarkable color. One is a deep purple and the other is, red with black edges. I’m still learning to care for them, but afraid they may need some tic because their trunks are getting a bit soft. Ty, for showing me that they can likely be saved, if the root rot is the issue, but hasn’t spread too much. This gives me a great sense of relief. Ty.

Maria, one of my Desert Roses has a ranch that turned brown and was hanging...I cut it off - I thought maybe something banged it. Then today another has it- I was SOOO UPSET! I looked it up and Found You - thank Goodness!!! and I believe it is Root Rot and I’m treating g it for that. I ever water my Desert Roses but it is rainy season here in Bonita Springs Florida snd we have had quite a bit of rain. I have them planted in half soil half sand as I was told...can you tell me about if they need fertilizer? I am going to check and clean anything I see on the roots and follow your video. I Hope it saves my plant🙏🙏🙏

Johnson J Greenidge what you using is very good mix I would not change any thing coco chip coco peat and perlite I we’ll recommend to do you own mix also add some good fertilizer like 14-14-14 or 14 -4-14 or anything high in nitrogen my personal experience coco chip and coco peat are very good for desert rosas buy just a little like about 25% because get the plant growing very fast and you want them to grow slowly they are very slow growing thank you Maria’s garde

Maria I’m in Australia and for about 6 months of the year we have hot dry weather around 100f- 120f. I’m finding the plats are going super dry with the hot sun 🌞 so I have been watering my babies when the soil runs dry around 3 times a week. They seem happy but will this kill them or do I need to adjust watering advice for my climate? Also we have had several days this summer where the temperature went to roughly 120f, probably hotter in the direct sun. I cooked some seedlings 🌱 last scorcher and killed them so I have been moving all my desert roses into a shady spot for this kind of extreme weather. Is it too hot for adult plants in full sun on days like this or just too much for seedlings?

Thank you so much! I live in Louisiana and I’ve been having a small desert rose plant in a pot for 4 years. It grows very slowly and now has root rot. I will try to save it like you recommended. I bring it indoors in the winter and have never repotted it. It has never bloomed but has silky beautiful long leaves in the spring and summer. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. 🙏

HELP ME MARIA!! My neighbor moved and left me her badly neglected Desert Rose! - it is a big plant that was hanging out of the pot, I repotted it a month ago, it started getting leaves back and a few flowers but some of the branches were soft so yesterday I trimmed a few and noticed Root Rot!! I carved it out and half the plant broke off. Should I pull the remaining plant out of the pot and dry it for 3 weeks till it s dry and hard? Will it survive? I feel so bad and want to save it!!

Hi Maria, thank you so much for this video I learned a lot I have a very very nice very expensive desert rose that the roots got rotten in the middle of the caudex. So I did what you were doing there I cut it to become very very short but there still a lot of rot in the middle so I dug the middle to have a like a big hole like probably 2 inches coming to the branch but I was able to clean it and I put a lot of cinnamon on it and I’m pressing if it is soft I still Dig a little bit I use spoon so now it’s clean and I hang it. my problem is I don’t know how to put it in a soil because I cannot cut it anymore because i will be cutting the branches and it will be gone already. it’s very very short I almost hit the branch so now I would probably wait for three weeks for it to dry, I hang it in the shade and under it there’s sun, but on top I hang there’s a shade and I don’t know how to put it in the soil because there’s no root since I cut everything please, help me how to do this if I put it in a soil if it is already dry then probably that dry thing will get a little bit of water if a repotted. how do I do this please help me. thank you maria. ❤️❤️❤️

I have had my desert rose for a year. I repotted it today and noticed there were a bunch of black ants in the soil. They were trying to make a hole in the main stem where I cut the plant when I got it. I sealed the cut with cinnamon and glue at the time. I decided to wash off the roots and remove all the soil to get rid of the ants. I noticed some slight root rot after the roots were all cleaned up. I have been following the advice in your videos! Hopefully my plant (Bulby) recovers well! Glad I caught the root rot early! Thanks!

Dear Maria - my desert rose was exposed to rain for too long. I took it inside but the damage was done. I had to remove large parts of the roots and the base of the plant. I followed the instructions in your very helpful video. Only two small sideway roots are now left. As there was a lot of rot, all big roots are gone. Do you think it can recover from that? I saw that some people even grow desert roses from cuttings so technically, it should be possible, right?

Hi my friend I,don’t recommend desert rose from cutting they’re many complications they are very difficult to keep a live,also next time you think your desert rose it’s root rot what you need to do during winter time place under roof for four weeks to dry and heal by them self ok best to do this during winter if you like send me a picture and I can try to help at 941 457 1172 thank you Maria’s garden

Hi Maria, I come from the Netherlands (Holland) and I have a desert rose with white flowers (adenium obesum). I bought it in a garden store, I don’t know how old the plant is, but I have it for a year now and it’s always standing inside the house on a sunny spot. I think my plant has root rot.. a part of the trunk gets really soft and it’s turning into a darker color. I want to save my plant. My question is, what’s the best way to dry my plant (after I cut out all rotten pieces and put a lot of cinnamon on it) and can I dry it inside the house? Do I have to lay the plant down on a towel somewhere in the shades or do you hang them somewhere so they can breathe? We also have a hot summer right now, and sometimes we have long rainy days. Temperature is going up and down. I don’t know if the plant will make it, but I can always try. Thank you so much for your information, I couldn’t find anything on dutch websites.

Hi Maria. I actually don't live too far from you. I'm from Ft. Myers and just came across your video. I just got a desert rose and planted it in my garden bed last week. It was doing fine but the last few days the leaves started getting brown spots and some leaves turned yellow. Can it be I overwatered it? Or is it root rot?
@MariasgardenGarden4 жыл бұрын
Yaritza Soto Hi my friend desert roses are at pot plants special in south west Florida but also during this time is normal to get yellow leaves and brown spots because the heat and the rain best if you place them in recovery 6 to 7 weeks please watch the video about recover time after reporting thank you Maria’s garden

Hi.... my desert rose caudex some time I touch it soft. 1 to 2 days it hard again. N it going soft again. On and off? Any idea ?
@MariasgardenGarden6 жыл бұрын
Chew Shee Loong hello the only thing I can think of with out seeing the plant is it isn’t getting enough water and dehydrated. To water the desert rose soak in in and then wait until the soil is complete dry before watering it again.i had that problem with some of my year olds and they were not getting enough water. Also remember they require 6 to 8 hours of sun each day and lots of heat let me know how it goes and thank you for watching my channel. Maria’s garden

Now the caudex is shicking soft n thin. What should I do. Stop giving water or water it. Because I put it in the sunlight the caudex is soft n thin
