If you own or want to own a 24v 2nd gen you’ve likely heard about VP44 injection pump failures, but the pump failing is just a symptom of the actual issue- THE LIFT PUMP! In this video I discuss the solutions to future proof your 24v 2nd gen VP44 truck to prevent injection pump failure with a new lift pump. More specifically I travel down to Maximum Diesels in Hemet California to install a new Fass lift pump on my truck. Follow along as I explain why you need a lift pump upgrade, show the install, and discuss the 24 valve Cummins fuel system!

Another one of the girls here and thank you for making this video! I recently lost my unicorn 03 5,9l 6 speed manual due to being hit head on while hauling horses (we all somehow walked away, highly recommend ranch hand bumpers). My 03 already had in the intank pump conversion with air dog filters and the replacement project 03 truck I just got still has the block mounted pump. Thank you for explaining this well as it was sending me down the rabbit hole to figure out and will be ordering the fass (w/o intank pump) asap.

I have a 2001 24 valve set up nice with a few mild upgrades in turbo, injectors, intake, and big pipe which sounds great and runs fantastic. I am getting ready to re-paint and go with a flatbed , FASS , rear springs etc. and possibly new carpet. Although I love the sounds it makes sometimes the hollow drone from bad acoustics in the cab gets a little annoying. Do you have any thoughts on sound deadening underlayment and in door panels etc.?

3rd option is to put the factory carter type pump back where you mounted that FASS . I did that over 20 years ago , it supported 416 RWHP thru the stock lines with just the banjo bolts eliminated . I have a Fass DDRP and their extension wiring kit that's going on my current 98 24v , it'll be back at the tank with my same 416RWHP combination from my old 2000 ram. One note the VP will actually draw fuel from the tank ... but it's not recommended ... , I drove my truck one evening after working on the fuel system and forgot to connect the harness back up , I drove 5 miles round trip the the gas station with it disconnected ...Good video , thanks.

The FASS is great! I've had mine for maybe 14 yrs with very few problems. 2 things I've changed is made new stainless steel mounting brackets and bolts, and new fuel line. I put in 1/2 inch stainless braided from tank to vp44. Also made a stainless return port on the filler neck. I would like to change the power source to key on power, because now it waits to run until the "wait to start" light goes off, which is annoying.

the in-tank upgrade pumps are easy to add universal filter heads and fleetguard (OEM cummins brand) filters to. Fleedgaurd's nano-net is the only 100% efficiency filter on the market and the media material is patented by cummins (so you wont find it anywhere else besides fleetguard products). the in-tank pumps are the best solution

@dwightyoung2269
@dwightyoung2269 2 жыл бұрын
Had the same problem with mine. Put one in the tank thinking that would solve the problem. It's not the vibration, it's the little pump itself. The VP44 requires at least 18 psi fuel pressure to stay cool and lubricated. The little factory modular pump only puts out at the most 8 psi pressure. Only adequate enough to baby drive, but eventually will fail. It's killing the VP right off the bat. Put a fass 150 pump on the frame next to the tank and no more problems.
@ChaosViper67
@ChaosViper67 2 жыл бұрын
Actually it's at least 14psi is ideal for 100% cooling and lubrication as that's when the overflow valve opens. Any more than that is just a cherry on top and more than 20psi can make the seals fail.

I’ve been watching the channel for about 2 or 3 months now and it’s by far one of the best on KZfaq for honest diesel stuff, but I have a question and maybe you could help me idk.. I have a 18 2500 Cummins it’s only got 20k miles and I don’t daily driver it bc I have a 97 NA Miata, but I was offered to trade my truck for a 66 nova ss with a built motor and transmission and it’s already got nitrous but I was wondering if it would even be a good trade since the market for trucks is always high on diesel with everything the way it is right now they are predicting the prices for new and used won’t be coming back down any time soon. So would it be possible to get a decent older diesel truck to replace the one I’m getting rid of to get the nova ? Or would I just be better off to keep mine and keep on building it up
@JustDiesels
@JustDiesels 2 жыл бұрын
It just comes down to your gut feeling and personal preference! Thankfully the Nova and Cummins are both niche vehicles with a good re-sale market, but I'd personally keep the diesel for the sake of practicality!

I’ve got over 120K on the other Fass unit I have with zero issues. I have nothing bad to say about them, but everyone has their brand preference!

Probably not from Nor Cal as there’s lots of good shops in between, but in So Cal they’re my go to shop after visiting a bunch.

I’d say start with maintenance and then the next most important thing is the fuel system. The common rail Cummins trucks really like quality filtration, so a Fass is worth doing!
