How to say THERE IS and THERE ARE in French | IL Y A | French grammar

"IL Y A" is one of the easiest parts of French grammar. It stays the same for feminine, masculine, singular and plural. The only hard part to learn is how to use the inversion when asking a question (but you can always use Est-ce que to make it easier 😉)

Try to make a sentence to practice. Dans mon frigo, il y a du lait d'amandes et des légumes. Il n'y a plus de gâteau Il will correct you 🙂

add music or some tunes to your videos...they're great and beneficial but it can also be interesting with some background music...:)

Hi Dylane - thanks for another great lesson. I looked for one on 'il y a' because I came across it in my reading and it seemed to refer to 'time ago' rather than 'there is', so this lesson cleared up that confusion for me. And you want a sentence to correct: Je suis tres triste. Pourquoi? Il n'y a pas de gateau dans aussi mon frigo.

The perfect French with Dylane Thank you for your excellent videos Dylane, they are very clear and concise. I typed je ten prie into google for a translation and it corrected me and said je t'en prie ie with an apostrophe. This was mentioned in your video ne changed to n' to avoid two vowels together. I am slowly grasping this apostrophe business. Thank you again!!

Une question! Cake changes (in your examples) from DU gateaux to DE gateaux in the negation. Is that correct?

Correct 🙂 after a negation DU always turns into DE. Il y a du gâteau - Il n'y a pas de gâteau
