I always see the question on how do I scale my helmets to be 3d printed! Its always scary to 3d print a helmet and it not be sized right. You dont want to waste plastic or time. If you run a 3d printing business people may return if the helmets not sized perfect. In this tutorial I show exactly how to scale your 3d printed helmets to get the perfect size everytime using a free file from an awesome creator by the name of Budwin and here is the link to his file. www.thingiverse.com/thing:488...

For those who want the math to be simplified to make this quicker: Take your circumference and divide it by the default helmet circumference. The example in this video: 24 divided by 22 = 1.091 which is 109.1%

For those who might be wondering what "Axis Short" and "Axis Long" are on the head models, "Axis Short" is the length between the left and right side of the head in inches. And "Axis Long" is the length from the Parietal Bone to the ridge of the eyebrow if you measured it in a straight line.

I personally like using Armorsmith because it's for the entire body. but this is a great free way to scale if you just want the helmet. Also if you're trying to line up multiple parts, just do it off of the build plate in Cura. That way they can float where ever you put them and they won't snap to the build plate.

This is a great video series. I am designing an HMC using a scanned mannequin head (had to scale it up to match my head circumference of 23.5in. You could also measure around your head and in cura you can see how big the inside of the helmet is, so you can snap scale it. Also armorsmith is really good if you want to fit a whole suit. I usually eyeball the helmets but don't eyeball a full suit (from experience).

What I would do is get the circumference of the head in three areas. One around the neck, one around the ears and nose, and one around the jawline and the top of the head. Divide all of the measurements by pii and focus on sizing the head to fit the inner chamber of the helmet. Add a 1/4 of an inch for padding and that's how I did it. That or invest in calipers. Also use a fabric measuring tape.
@SaturdayMorningProps
@SaturdayMorningProps Жыл бұрын
Super accurate logic for sure, my original goal with this video was to help people sizing for customers, and If you think you are getting customers to send you that detailed of information 😂 I can't even trust them to measure their head half the time
@seekertosecrets
@seekertosecrets Жыл бұрын
@@SaturdayMorningProps I get it. That's why you provide diagrams on where to wrap it. But of course, the value is inaccurate when it comes to self measurement. So the hat method and referencing to the 3d heads provides a sure guide for accuracy.

is it okay if the ears clip a small bit? Or should the ears completely be cleared when scaling?
@SaturdayMorningProps
@SaturdayMorningProps 9 ай бұрын
Ears are flexible a slight clipping shouldn't be too bad but clearly it's a little safer if the ears fit

I got their file and I have to say I was disappointed at first there was no size 24in head circumference. However I have found that if you do a little math you can take the one of these, scale it up to your exact head dimensions and then size your parts for it. I’m doing this for a skull mask and it’s working BEAUTIFULLY so far.
@SaturdayMorningProps
@SaturdayMorningProps 8 ай бұрын
I'm curious did you actually watch the video? Because I literally show exactly how to do the math because there aren't all head sizes?
@shadacusblackheart6044

@@SaturdayMorningProps I did the first time I watched this months ago, but when I came back now to get the files and set off to do this I got about three minutes before I closed out. Having rewatched it in it’s entirety I see your point. Although I got the same result by doing the math differently which was some conversions and simple addition and subtraction.

Any tips for a more rounded head? Or is that no different? Also, thank you for this video. I just tested it out on the Batman cowl and my test ring is near perfect. Only downside is that the side of my head is a bit wider than the model since I’m more rounded. One of the best ways to fit a print! Especially since I’m more of a visual type of person 😂
@SaturdayMorningProps

So if you measured your width ear to ear and head front to back you could size the head to fit you a little better maybe

That one is do3ds but it's a super hard one to slice, it has over a million triangles so I had to put it in to 3d builder and simplify it to 25% to stop it from crashing my comp

i'm interested of printing a prototype of a HUD-helmet with semi-transparent oled indicators on the visor, but first i need to practice with a smaller project - half-mask of a demon-fox :} idk, if those files help me or not, but thanx anyway

The files are for sizing all masks and helmets. So when you get your fox mask files you would use these to make sure the fox mask fits your face
