If you ever do decide to pull the straight pipes out of the rads lay them flat in a tote and soak them in vinegar for 20 mins and it'll eat the corassion off and turn it to number 1. Make sure to wash them off good or it'll turn green fast. Happy scrappy

What makes it #2 copper, i thought it would be #1
@mikehasit73
@mikehasit73 2 жыл бұрын
Anything that was in or on the pipe other than copper will make it number 2. These copper aluminum radiator coils had refrigerate running through them which has an oil in it. The oil in the pipe make it number 2. Number 1 copper is clean uncontaminated copper. No paint, oil, solder, grease, etc. Hope this clears up the difference. If you have more questions please feel free to ask. Thanks for watching

I cut the ends off to get rid of the steel. Then sell the clean radiator with aluminum on it. I get so many so fast for me it is not worth going to the next step to separate the aluminum fins from the copper tube.

I wonder any special way of actually seperateing the pipe out . Or this take too much time. I only get a dozen of these a year.
@mikehasit73
@mikehasit73 3 жыл бұрын
You can cut along every single pipe to remove the aluminum and end up with #2 copper. Takes a lot of time. You would be better off cutting the ends and sell them as is. Instead of waiting 20 or 30 minutes fighting with each pipe you can use that time to hunt down more scrap worth more than the few extra bucks separating.

Correct. I cut the steel end off and sell as clean ACR'S. I don't waste time cutting and pulling every row of tubing out. You can make extra money doing that however it is time consuming. I have found for me it is not worth it, I get so many so fast I don't have extra time.

What long pipe? Are you referring to the pipe that runs through the aluminum? If so you have to cut down each pipe to separate it. I don't waste time doing that. I have found it take to much time. I get such a large volume of cu/al rads I just cut the end of stack them up. Thanks for watching

I use a special putty knife and put the radiator in my vise. I cut the aluminum to the copper pipe and push the radiator to snap out or tug the copper pipe. Yields #1 copper.
