I have also done this in the past. Run the blade down twice then run a flat head screw drive down for separation. Them pull out copper rods. Like any thing else what is your time worth. But regardless we learn by trial. Keep on keeping on!! :)

The large yard I take a lot of this kind of copper to, would classify all that copper as number two because it's had oil in it. Your yard may be different so I would keep t in a separate container and ask them. I'm curious, so hopefully, you remember to update us on what they give you.

#1 on the copper tubing, remember its all about the melting process. That goes straight to the furnace because its free of other metal alloys or paint for example when burning! I don’t believe refrigerant that was removed would effect price at all! Put it aside as #1. Size doesn’t matter its copper bus tubing regardless! Don’t sell yourself short! Nice hoard!
@SirSwanky-zd6el

That's def copper #1. Don't listen to anyone else on that subject. It's perfectly clean and way way bigger than enough to be considered #1. Why would you tell a scrap yard it may or may not have had refrigerant in it at one point. It doesn't now. Don't sell yourself short on making money. They'd rip you off at the first chance they had. Definitely copper #1. It's all about melting it and there is no further cleaning needed to be done to make it pure copper

Great job. To speed up the first sits along the inside of the steel ends I used a Sawzall yesterday and with a metal cutting blade it literally cut like butter, about 20-30 seconds each side just with the weight of the saw, I didn't force it. Now I'm ready to try the rest of the cleanup, thanks for the ideas.

Keep makin videos, i love watching you to. My scrap yard pays so little its just not worth the time and effort, and ive tried driving to other recycle places but then the time and cost still isnt worth it, SO i built a furnace got some cast iron molds off ebay and i now melt down all my own scrap and pour it into molds of fish, roosters and deer and now im going to start selling those and see if i can do better in the cash department. Im a retired, disabled veteran so its more of a "something to do" rather than "i need food on the table"

Good job. Rads are difficult at best. Don't listen to the haters. By Hand, Rads can only be separated a few ways. Your doing it correctly....obviously. #1 - #2? Depends on the Yard. It looks like #1 but it has oil on it.
@austindevaney2792
@austindevaney2792 Жыл бұрын
So after you use the razor knife to cut along the line of the copper tubing, instead of using pliers to push down use a small hatchet 🪓 and hit lightly between the tubes and the aluminum will separate/tear off the tubes and u can literally pull em up one by one so much faster

I’m doing scraping for metal and on my two day run of picking up refrigerators, washers , dryers , freezers , fans , coffee makers , microwaves , tv’s , water dispensers, that all have copper and aluminum I made over 500 in two days worth of picking up free metal . I only used $16 of diesel for both days . My time to take it apart and also make money on the scrap metal is worth it . I also take my time and squeezing every nook and cranny in all of the items so I can pack my trailer to the gills . For example I’ll remove the electrical wires from a fridge & motherboards and then I fill the stove with a microwave that’s also full of metal . The least amount of unused space is the goal . Tis more then working for someone else and at my own hours . I’m gonna spend my money on a fence first so my city won’t bother me and a metal table with a vise . The comment about the sawzall is a great idea and so is the one where he only uses a screwdriver to cut the radiator.

Some scrap yards wont take those Aluminum foils. Source: Me when my pile of radiator foils got rejected one time. You could go through the trouble of melting it down into an ingot or two, but aluminum scrap prices are so low right now it may not be worth the effort.

If you don't have a grinder use a chisel, once you get used to it it take less than a minute to do each end on a central air rad. But I find it to be a waste of time taking copper out of the rad and you end up making almost the same amount of money

M8 cheers on your efforts to make extra cash. I've been scrapping for over 20 years, and I haven't seen anything l I keep that. You're being in Canada 🇨🇦 ay , your scrap yard may call it all #2 do to the oil inside the tubing. Rule to always remember , " the metal that you sell to the scrap yard will make them money, so it is up to you where you sell it for the best price." Keep up the good work . God bless y'all.

Hi both, enjoyed the video. Depends on your scrapyard for the copper. If any liquid apart from water has gone through it, i would say no.2. Could try cleaning it. Would be interesting to hear what they grade it as. Just advanced warning, there's a 40 questions challenge going around. I got nominated & will be uploading tonight or tomorrow. Once completed the participant has to nominate 6 people, which is a bit much, so i've nominated yourselves. Hopefully it'll bring you to a wider audience. I'll forward the questions once uploaded. I'm always careful how much info I give away on KZfaq. After that video i'll give you a proper shout out in my new video. From little acorns as they say. I was going to nominate k&D Scrapping, i really don't think he would've been very happy, do you? Anyway, speak soon in the next couple of days. Keep up the good videos. Thanks, Matt.

You can tell you’ve never done this before. I do it similar. Just need a stronger/sturdy box cutter. And run a flat head down where you cut so the copper wants to come out. I really want melt the aluminum off the copper in a big fire. Just because the aluminum is so... light and close to not worth worth even storing/bringing to the yard Any body melt the aluminum off there copper rads?

Using a cheap plastic box cutter with a breakaway blade is not recommended for this procedure. Get a nice steel handled box cutter witha retractable single blade. Less chance of blade breaking off and cutting yourself.
