Years ago I had a girlfriend who's mama made coffee in an old pot like that. She would see me coming and pour me a cup. I thought if she's like her mama, I've got it made. She wasn't.

After reading a recently published Swiss study, I headed to KZfaq and Mr. Rollins' videos. This morning I made my first pot of Cowboy Coffee this morning and my cats who never bother my drinks are crawling all over me to get to my coffee cup. One of my tests of ready-made-food is that if the cats don't want it I shouldn't eat it. I guess they have been telling me I was drinking the wrong coffee for forty plus years. I'm 68 and learning new tricks everyday.

@@efafe4972 The results of a world wide study on filtered and unfiltered coffee was released by Swiss researchers last year. The report found women who drink unfiltered coffee tend to have lower cholesterol than women who drink filtered coffee. My cholesterol test results were borderline high at the time. In the year since I started drinking unfiltered coffee, my cholesterol has fallen into the normal range.

This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. kzfaq.infoUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.

As you said. Coffee played a big part in America's history. We started drinking coffee in protest to English tea. George Washington switched his Army from tea to coffee. England taxed tea. That's why it got thrown in the harbor and we drank coffee instead.

I am a Brit, so I start and finish the day with tea, but I drink coffee to help me work because it helps with the thinking process. One thing they have in common though, is that they are affected by the taste of the water you use. Hard, soft, fluorinated, chlorinated, peaty or spring clear water all make a noticeable difference to the outcomes, so we either filter the water or use bottled spring water if we want to get the best taste. Tap water just doesn’t cut it I am afraid!

It does in Wyoming USA!!! All comes down into the reservoirs all over the state from our many ranges of the Rocky Mountains. DEE-licious. I don't believe I could live longterm somewhere that the water wasn't absolutely delicious. Billings, Montana is 100 miles north, and if I have to go spend a night up there for some reason, I take plenty of water from home with me. Same with Casper, Wyoming - 200 miles SE of me. But, both industrial cities, although Casper is 2nd highest in population in Wyoming at about 58,000 people. I'm truly sorry your water isn't some of the finest. I truly am - & not just because it makes a huge difference in coggmmffee or tea! ❤

Mr. Rollins, I have to say that this reminds me of my childhood. We used to go out on a guys weekend. Food was cooked over an open fire, and so was the coffee. Coffee was cooked in an old coffee pot similar to yours straight on the fire. They liked it a bit stronger. A couple of scoops of a #10 plastic lid into a warming put off water. Bring to a boil then sit on the ground next to the fire to let sit a few minutes. It was told to me the cold ground would pull the grounds to the bottom of the pot. Very good cup of coffee. Thank you for the memories. God bless!

Up until 1864 and later people had to roast green coffee beans at home, in iron skillets like popping corn. A friend of mine in college worked on a pre-Castro ranch in Cuba, and he described how the cook in camp roasted coffee beans over a fire in a rotisserie and said you could smell the coffee roasting down wind from miles away.

Kent, I have the same 3-quart enamelware pot you've got, that I picked up from a general store a few years ago. It works great. Enjoying another pot of coffee right now. Keep the expertise coming!

Thanks again to and for the Rollins family for another fine educational tutorial. I've got an old Blue granite pot with white specks all over that I salvaged from where my inlaws used to live. I remember when it was used for coffee making and, along with a couple of more kettles, it heated water for the kids nightly baths in the washtub. I wanted to resurrect it for our camping trips but time and neglect had taken a toll on it. Along the bottom seam I found several small holes while using the sun as you demonstrated. I don't know if it could be brazed or not. I was thinking there might be other areas that might be too thin and ready to spring a leak. I guess the sentiment I hold for this old coffee pot is too strong to let it disappear. We have a lot of memories using this old pot. Thanks again my friend's for sharing another aspect of/in the everyday lives of chuckwagon cooks. Stan

Harrison Mantooth .... You might want to add a thick slurry of porcelain powder...condense the putty like powdered porcelain...and have it refired...The melted porcelain will seal the holes....look for someone that does pottery they have an oven big enough to get the pot in...same technique as porcelain artwork on copper for jewelry...just bring it to melting temp of porcelain There should be a lower temp porc powder for repairs of jewelry

You are correct my friend. ..I had a stainless steel pot that had been seasoned for 3 of four years it was perfect. ...well, mom came to visit and she made coffee one morning and told me that she did me a favor by washing out my pot with soap water and she bleached it back to brand new for me ... 😢😢😢😢 thanks mom 😯

I love my morning coffee, black of course! (There is no other 'real' cup of coffee other than black). Anyway, I have a good porcelain pot I got from REI years ago and am ashamed to say I washed it out after every outing. I also used the percolator basket that came with it to make my coffee. You have assured that these practices will NEVER happen again! I will season that pot tomorrow and it will never see soap or basket again! Thanks for the kick in the butt!

Great Cowboy Coffee Videos! I may not be a Cowboy But, On a Steel Horse I Ride! Harley Davidson. Anyway, living out West in Northern California I have always heard about "Cowboy Coffee" It seemed like it would be full of grinds, so I made a pot of Cowboy Coffee in the only thing I had a stainless steel saucepan. Followed your recipe for boiling time etc. and as a life long coffee drinker at 66 years old, I Just Had The Best Cup Of Black Coffee In My Life!!!
