Its very cool to see, with all you experience, the proper way to season the PIT BOSS griddle...also very cool to see PIT BOSS making a cast iron griddle, adding more options for griddlers everywhere...thanks for profiling and sharing the magic sauce to seasoning like a pro!!! Another banger!!

Very cool. But when you say a tablespoon and then actually use about 10 times that amount of oil it is kind of funny.

@@waltwins At around the 10 minute mark you said to use around one half to one tablespoon. To my eye it looks like you then used at least 5 times that much. I had noticed that earlier in the video as well. Sorry for nitpicking. I did appreciate the video. I just bought my first grill for use on my indoor oven and I was up until 3 am last night seasoning it. It made a great breakfast this morning, and was a joy to use with such low sides and a larger surface than my biggest frying pan. My IR gun showed more temerature variation than I expected, but I have learned that is normal even on big griddles like yours..

Two finishing tips: 1 from Blackstone Betty, and one from myself. 1. Dice up 5-6 white onions and cook them up for your first cook. Helps even out your layers. Will help you get by with only 3-4 layers vs 7-8. 2. A good seasoning takes a lot of propane. Make sure you have a backup ready so you don’t mess up that first family cook…….

That's definitely a great video! I used peanut oil on my flat top. I did four applications and right after that cooked quite a few mounds of bacon. Like you said any high smoke point oil oh yeah and neutral flavor should work pretty decent.

Back to cast iron I see. I have not seen many smoke videos. I have done 3 pork tender loins since the new year. Get you some rosemary and garlic seasoning and encrust the pork using a yellow muster binder. Smoke 225-230 for about 2 hours if I remember. Add the kraut to a aluminum pan and put that in the smoker to warm up when cooking. It is money.

Excellent video, thank you! I finally understand how to work with my griddle. I have a question for you, you talked about sections of the griddle that might feel sticky, or have bubbles and wrinkles. My griddle has some of this, and I believe you said it was caused by too much oil sitting in a particular place on the griddle. What’s the best way to get this to be smooth like the rest of the griddle?

Such a fun process, it's almost like magic. I'm curious if you looked at temps with the temp gun to see how even it is. It was interesting to see that darker hot spot, I can't wait to now it cooks. Oh, cool that you mentioned the wheels being all locking casters. My Blackstone only has the two and it drives me bananas. To me it's a design flaw... all of them should have swiveling wheels! My patio surface is an aggregate concrete with pebbles, so it's kind of uneven in places and makes it really hard to move around anything with wheels. And where I have the griddled placed (The only place it works right now), makes me wish I had the wheels on the opposite side to easily pull out the griddle on one side so I can tend to the drain in back. ugh. Anyway, looking forward to all the great things coming. Hope we can chat soon. Griddle On!

Hey brother!! It’s so funny, I stopped using the temp gun, so put it away somewhere so safe I can’t find it..😂😂. I have been wanting to temp this out for sure, I may have to pick up another one!! Thank you so much for watching! Yes, we keep it on. I know years ago there were videos explaining to let the griddle cool down between layers, but most keep it hot throughout the process. Most griddles will since hot spots, so if there is one area that is “screaming” hot, we lower that burner to medium-to-medium/high. Hope this helps!

I just got the new deluxe model, and I recognize that the maintenance question is an important one - once you season the griddle, you would only do this process periodically. After each cook, you would clean the griddle, and once the griddle is cooled, you would lay a thin coat of oil on the griddle. We will do a clean and maintenance video soon! If you have questions, for sure feel free to reach out to us through Facebook or Instagram! 🤙🤙
