I'm three months into bowling and some days everything goes well and I hit a new personal high score (228 two weeks ago) or close to it (217 earlier this week), while on other days, I get more splits and I miss more single pin spares than I care to remember. Watching some of the others bowling in the adjacent lanes, I wondered if I should change my release... if my axis tilt is too low. Then I had that Eureka moment watching this video... when you said the semi-roller is (some would argue) the most desired roll. I'm a semi-roller. I'll just keep practising, working on being more consistent with my footwork, swing and release. Thank you for your videos.

My roll is all of these. I can’t get a consistent release so I do all of these unintentionally. It’s annoying because most of them end up in the gutter.

I use to be a full roller years ago but barely. It was in between my thumb and fingers but just barely. In fact if I did not release clean I took a chance on rolling over the thumb and did ever so often. Then I stopped bowling for 15 years and when I came back I was a little in between a spinner and semi but had some bad habits due to bad joints. I am a semi roller now and love it. The key for me was to really keep my palm turned up and keep my elbow close to the body and follow through. I was letting my elbow out and had a big hook I was having a hard time controlling it. I actually have lost a lot of hook and most of the time play straighter in the heavy oil and not on the outside as much. When I stopped trying to achieve the largest hook I can and rolled the bowl end over end forward my average took off I started carrying more strikes. You have to be a powerful bowler and a lot of back swing and match revs to ball speed to get a huge hook to pay off. 4 shoulder surgeries on the right arm kind of throws that out the window for me now, and I also had both hips cut on in the last couple years and fixing to have my left replaced due to necrosis, so I had to change. It is so much easier for me to be consistent this way now. Anyone with to much angle that is not a semi roller should try to make it part of their game. If nothing else It is just another tool when the lanes transition and you keep having your ball run away to the left.

cranker spinner or full roller seems like you misspoke. That would be like saying "do you like apples, oranges, or Volkswagen? Cranker tweener and stroker generally have do with rev rate. Full roller is a track starting point That said, I've enjoyed your videos, keep them up!

Thank yo for best and wise replay for tracks. I have spinner rolling delivery. Axis tilt more than 30 degrees. Now I try to make axis 10-15 digrees next time in practis. Do i have to chance my drillings with fingers and thump, more inside or reward? Wil there be some help. I have really big trouble to get my ball semi roller.

Your service was impeccable! Now, if I could just get my alley to serve ME some good rolls..... ;-) Seriously, I'm understanding from looking at a few charts that my Axis Tilt of 33-37 degrees is "high." Does that mean when I get my next layout that it can be done to "compensate" for that and make the axis tilt lower, so that it starts to roll sooner??

I am not a fan of the semi roller. The ball seems to stall and stop hooking? So, if your shot is not heading tight to the 1/3, it’s not going to keep turning giving you less pin action.

So apparently I have such a high track that it literally rolls over the far left edge of my middle finger. I'm a two handed (no thumb) bowler though that recently transitioned over after 30+ years of bowling the conventional way (thumb in ball) righty. Is it bad that my track is that high up? Does it mean my balls layouts should've been done a little differently? I just recently got all 5 balls thumb holes plugged and new layouts done since I was switching over to a 2H (no thumb) style and my PSO didn't even care to watch me throw the ball to do any adjustments with my PAP as a 2H compared to my old 1H PAP. Is it true that he didn't even need to see how I throw the ball 2H before laying out my balls? It's like he took my PAP of all the years I bowled as a conventional (thumb in ball) righty and just assumed what layout would work decent enough after making the switch.

No, I've known good bowlers who've thrown spinners. They are often more consistent across a variety of lane conditions, because the ball never hooks much. You don't get great carry but you can have a nice average. Plus the same shot works for spares.

There's no need to twist our wrist, using the thumb to push & creating the helicopter spin or by using the fingers to spin is another way. Wrist spinning is wrong.

@@theamflitebowler If you don't twist the wrist then you twist the elbow. There has to be some rotation, the fingers and thumb can't do it alone. I 've never seen even one helicopter style kee both elbow and wrist firm, and spin the ball just with fingers. In any case, this video shows it completely wrong anyway.
