In case anyone is feeling overwhelmed by all this... It sounds like a lot of work, but you don't have to be an expert, or do it all yourself. Editing, proofreading, formatting and cover design can easily be outsourced to professionals. It's not expensive, and it'll end up generating more money for you in the long run because professionally finished books always perform best. And you don't need to start a blog to be successful. There's quicker and easier ways to build an audience and launch your book. You can create your blog later, if you want. So, what's left? You just need to write a GREAT BOOK and bring it to a self-publishing platform. Abbie's awesome guides will help you make that happen. You got this!

Before I started (officially) on my writing journey I thought it was okay to just be a hermit, write a manuscript and then shove it at a publisher who, of course, would graciously accept it because it's amazing and beautiful and original. Now I know better. I can't be an introvert if I want to be a published author. It takes people to make a book successful. Lots of people. WHO KNEW?! Abbie makes me want to believe I can self-promote and do the stuff and the things to get people to buy my book and get my name out there. But my dark and soothing Corner of Hermitude is calling...

Thank you Ms Emmons! I started a novel more than 25 years ago, and was going great guns!... Then life happened, depression resulted, and I put the story away for decades. I've picked it back up this year, and found it's actually a non medical anti-depressant itself! So, I'm looking forward enough to consider publication, and found your videos, Yaaaay! I'm actually really happy that someone is out there helping and reaching out to us newbies that dream about writing and being published. I truly am. And you seem like you really want to help others and I'm so glad for it. I am thinking about trying some literary agents, even if going indie has always been in my mind, but I am deeply scared that, because I'm not that good with contacts, blogging and stuff I wouldn't be able to reach out to those I want to. I indie published 3 books. I agree on the control. I have had some negative feedback from indie publishing from various editors..but I stand my ground on this one.

I am very interested in watching more in depth videos on all of these topics and the video about the cost of publishing as well. The way I see it it will be some time before I finish and publish my first book and so now would be the best time to start saving and planning ahead! Also, congrats to you girl!!! YES! I want my book to be available worldwide too! And I want all the control too so definitely going indie. Also I didn't know about the print and hardback with sizes. I'm two minutes in this video and want the comment real quick. I have a dream to become an author and the idea of being rejected over and over again (like most authors) by publishers demotivated me to start writing my book. I always thought that self-publishing was only possible with e-books, but little did I know that you can self-publish books in all formats. I'm so happy I found you. Thanks for the video. :)

I love that you also promote professional editors. Because I do think that is important, and I want my stories to get professionally edited one day (once I get enough cash lol) but I also love how you say you can basically do it all yourself with so much control. I really love that!

yes i am going to self publish. i have to have full control of my book and I have own the rights. That's very important to me. There is alot work goes into this process but, I am willing to take my time and enjoy the art of writing and learn the business part. 😉 by the way, i love those colors of your books and decor. Thank you so much for sharing this information. YES! I want to go indie. It seems like a lot, but the alternatives absolutely disgust me. I didn't even get through phone conversations with "self-publishers" before they were trying to completely control me.... Its MY book. I want to have complete control of it. I want to maintain the rights to it. Etc. etc. etc. Thank you again for sharing your vast knowledge on this subject. I, for one, am super appreciative!

Just discovering your channel and so excited about your content! Your book cover is gorgeous and I can’t wait to learn more about how you self published. I am writing my first novel and was set on sending it out in the hopes of traditional publishing but you’ve convinced me that indie is probably way better for me. It does feel like a lot of work especially for a deep introvert. Any suggestions on how introverts can deal with all the promotion of their books? Thanks!

Just found your videos I know their four years old but thank you so much for this I used to scoff and just want to go the trad route because I felt like becoming indie was just for people that couldn’t get published but I’m seeing keeping your rights and having control might be the better way to go

I bought a copy of 100 Days of Sunlight a few weeks ago and that is one of the things I noticed about the paperback! I looove the feel of the cover, amazing, I am obsessed with the texture of it. I got it at Chapters (Indigo) in Ottawa, ON Canada

Not scared, the exact opposite actually. I've been leaning towards indie publishing for a while now but whenever I do research on it, it's entirely too overwhelming. You broke down each step and made indie publishing seem possible. Obviously it's still a lot of hard work but having a path to follow makes it a lot easier than running around in the dark. I can't wait to see the other videos you make on this subject ^_^

I’m coming to this video late, so you may have already done this (will totally be checking once this video is over) but I definitely would love your advice on author websites! As someone who does not want to make a “writing advice” site (and does not have any books completed), I’m at a loss for what to put on an author site.
