A top spin doesn’t come naturally to many players so hitting at 11 o’clock would make the ball move flatter through the air than they would like. One tip for those players is to hit the ball closer to 12 o’clock and to drop you thumb to your left shoulder (if you’re right handed). This will force you to wrap your hand around the ball and it will provide much more top spin. Eventually the top spin will become natural and then you can back to 11o’clock. You won’t need to drop the thumb any more. If you find the ball going long again just drop that thumb.

Just focus on making your last two steps light and quick, and think about going to meet the ball at the highest point possible. Don't let the ball drop down

I had the same problem but I'm able to make a usable jump serve by doing 1 thing. Toss low. Don't watch haikyuu serves and think you can do that spike serve. You need a godly toss for that. Just toss low enough that you need to make a little hop to be able to hit the ball at the highest point and gradually increase the toss height. It's a waste of time to try and learn to hit a really high toss (because it's very hard to make an accurate high toss without a ton of practice) instead build off from a low toss

If ever looking for ideas for new video here's a few things I've been thinking about from a complete newbie who is absolutely loving volleyball (and your videos!): 1. practice to do by yourself when not by a volleyball court 2. volleyball workouts at at gym 3. volleyball workouts not at a gym 4. super-close super-super-slow-mo videos of a bump/set/spike so can see what it looks like 5. where to start as a totally newbie to get better quick 6. foot-work workouts Sorry if you made any of these yet and haven't seen them yet. Thanks again for all the incredible videos!

There's lots of ways to get your feet to the ball. For me, starting with my right foot works well. The most important thing is for your jump serve to be repeatable and consistent. Light and quick step close, contacting the ball on your sweet spot, and jumping into the court all helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

There are always ways to have fun and get better at the same time, even if you'd be just locked into a room! :) Sometimes restrictions like this or injuries even lead to breakthroughs because you all of the sudden are forced to think differently about getting better which ends up teaching you things that your normal ways of doing things never did! :)

I was born with a dislocated elbow on my right arm, I’m a righty, it’s not as bad as you imagine it I just can’t put my arm fully out, and when I turn my palm facing up I can’t go fully flat so the ball will always go to the left, what can I do to give myself a decent toss?

Where is the jousting video? Probably the least talked about aspect of beach but incredibly important as it may come up in any rally. And it's not just about who pushes second. There are many factors that make a strong jouster. You may be surprised. Sincerely, the Canadian Joust King.

Thanks for a cool video! Will be playing around with some of this this summer when it's time to learn jumpserves properly, been surviving too long with the floats with the mikasa ball! :) Do you guys of the top of your head know any pros that jumpserve with tossing on the left step, cutting down one step and maybe even being able to toss even lower? Would wanna analyze a bit! 🧐🤓 Maybe the rhythm and flow of the whole thing gets jerkier with one less step, or there are some other disadvantages?

There's endless ways to get your feet to the ball. All that matters is that it's simple and repeatable. If you're comfortable and balanced while you're serving and can control where the ball goes, you're golden. Let me know if you have any more questions

I liken it to tennis where the pros have a lesser 2nd serve that's more consistent but still pretty salty. No sense trying to rip it until dialed in with the "lesser" which will still get some aces.

The toss part seems a bit confusing for me, as you guys say toss right step right, but he only initiates the toss on his right step but actually tosses - the ball leaves his hand - on his left step. Any insight on this? :)
@MrTimy06
@MrTimy06 4 жыл бұрын
I think the important point is to get you into rhythm. Which step you take first or how many is not the most important, but rather it's to start your approach at the same time you toss the ball. He's doing a four-steps approach (right, left, right, left) but you could also do that with a three-steps approach (left step first if you're right-handed). I agree on this, I think tossing the ball, waiting there for it to go down, then starting your approach is harder than tossing it a little lower and starting your approach at the same time.
@shaquesbeer
@shaquesbeer 4 жыл бұрын
Toss right, step right just means go to your right. If you aim straight in front of you, half the time you're going to miss left. If you aim your toss 2-3 feet right, it's really difficult to miss to your left. When the ball if off to your right it's always easier to adjust.

I always start slowing my breath as soon as I go back to serve. Jump serving and running up can be exhausting, so I like to slow things down and think of a few mental cues. Before I start my approach I always take a big deep breath. Great question Kevin
