Didnt realise that a bit of lubrication fixes backlash 🤣 Seriously though, the reason why the ratchet no longer freely rotates when youre undoing a bolt is becauseonce you loosen something, there is more friction in the ratchet mechanism than the friction on the bolt theads being engaged. Yes lube can help this to a point, but the spring strength would have a bigger impact..

@@meaders2002 I'm sometimes rough with my rachets. Always used Craftsman. Are they the best? Not by a long shot. Are they the worst? Not so much. On most of these fine tooth single pawl mechanisms, grease is to viscous and will cause the pawl to stick. On the old rocking pawls (Old Snap on, Craftsman, ect) grease works great. Snap on uses Super Lube silicone grease in their Dual 88s factory

It depends on the type of mechanism, don't use grease for everything, it's better to use what the manufacturer tells you to use, if it says grease, use it, if it says oil, use oil, some mechanism gunk up if you use grease.

Backlash? It’s called back drag or ratcheting resistance. Backlash refers to the amount of movement between gears. For example, in a ratchet, once it clicks there will be a measurable amount of movement to reengage the ratchet. This is for all gears like in a differential or transmission.

I thought the tekton sockets were pretty dang good for what I paid for them, but the tekton 3/8ths ratchet was easily the most crunchiest thing I've ever used in my life. I just ended up welding it to a 2 foot length of pipe. Just about all its good for. My daily driver for my at home tool set is a 3/8ths husky 100 tooth. Just untill I decide to finally bite the bullet again for another snappy 3/8ths.
