I had a Sears Kenmore canister vacuum I got from a friend in the early 90s. It was her mom's, bought in the 80s. It was a great vacuum with the beater brush and I was obsessed with cleaning that thing. I even bought replacement parts for things that were wearing out. I had that thing for 30 years. Loved the tinkering.

Great information. I work on my own vacuum but it's nothing fancy. The screwdriver comment was shocking...time to write a book about what basic skills you should have throughout life. I actually know adults who can't tie shoelaces or tell time on a non-digital clock. And don't get me started on those who don't know north, south, etc. Keep your educational and funny videos coming!

Because of Velcro sneakers? That's unbelievable! Yet I believe it. And then I think, you mean to say they cannot tie a bow in the ribbon when they wrap a gift?! But then I remember that so few people (besides me) wrap presents any more. They just throw them into a gift bag with a bunch of tissue. Next time someone makes fun of me for not knowing how to put apps on my phone and not wanting to know, I will say, well at least I know how to tie my shoes, wrap a present, make a bed WITH hospital corners, hold a screwdriver, and read a map!

Jacquie Conley.. quite scary isn't it really that people lack basic skills and simple knowledge, my mobile phone broke the other day so i had to take a piece of paper with the code written on to collect a parcel , gave it to the guy behind the counter he looked as if to say what the hell , a hand written note , he then asked well what is that ? Pointing to a particular letter.. I had to tell him well its an upper case G. He looked at me like i had two heads..😞

I had to replace a beater bar ($30). It works great n no more dog smell. When I wash it I. Spray a concentrated fragrance in it with no oils. It smell great when you use it. That was a great find. I've always replaced the belts on my vacuum cleaner. People are so wasteful, often discarding vacuum cleaners that are perfectly usable if they'd just clean the brushes, replace worn belts and clean or replace the filters. It's so simple and can save a lot of money from not buying new vacuums every time they just need a good cleaning. There's no need to pay someone to service a vacuum cleaner. Anyone could do it themselves.

I reuse vacuum bags if they r not torn, but I always wonder how much of that dirt gets in the air from the bags? I mean, air goes into it and has to escape? So, if u r using someone else’s vacuum, u don’t want their dust mites?! Are everyone’s dust mites the same or r some more toxic in the air. We need a toxicologist for that answer. I just use a new bag or dump their cooties out first cause I don’t want anything from them I could be allergic to. Most ppl don’t think about that stuff, but it’s others germs. lol! I know, these mites r everywhere, we just have to live with them. Ugh! Great vacuum!! 👍🏻
@freakinfrugal5268
@freakinfrugal5268 5 жыл бұрын
Well then if you go into anyone else's home or a restaurant or an office, you are going to be getting everyone else's dust mites. They are gross when you see them under a microscope, but I don't think they are dangerous to your health, unless maybe for people with severe allergies.
@LGAussie
@LGAussie 5 жыл бұрын
Freakin Frugal Yes Amy, they are everywhere, even in every pore on our bodies, but I think some strains are stronger. It’s line the bacteria in Mexico’s water does not effect the natives, but when we go there we get deathly ill if we don’t address it with Kefir or antibiotics. Bed bugs were eradicated in the 40’s in the US my relatives said, but foreigners have brought back stronger strains. It’s the same with illegals not being quarantined before allowed in. Many r bringing diseases we just don’t have or have antibiotics for. That’s why u hear new viruses or germs on the news that we can’t kill here, but they never tell u where they came from. I’m sure u r safe taking a vacuum cleaner in the US unless it was used by foreigners who had bed bugs. Ha! U always use good judgement anyway, and u know which home left it out. If u saw piles of dirt outside with it as if they were tossing out everything, then maybe they had an insect problem like carpenter ants, termites, or bedbugs. Bedbugs are still rare, but Manhattan stores and movie houses have had infestations. Most ppl r so clueless about this stuff. It’s so easy to carry bedbugs into ur home cause if they were on a movie house chair, the bugs leave a gel with their eggs that stick to clothes or suitcases in hotels. That’s why they say to hang your suitcases up higher from floor in hotels. Anyway, it goes on and on all the germs that r around. Dust mites are in everyone’s house and couch in the millions. When u wash your found pillows and couches, I always think the insides have the mites too, so it’s a good idea to gently water bleach the inside bag of feather material, then put them in a plastic bag and let the bleach air kill any mites sitting on foam or actual pillow area. It’s extra work that u really aren’t worried about and the kids already jumped on them when u got them, but if u wanted to go the extra mile, that’s one way. That couch was from a good home. I would never worry about them. But pillows or blankets I would never put in my house first. I’d throw them into laundry first. I worked for a top dermatologist in Manhattan where Madonna, Whitney Houston and many others came. The doctor would tell me not to touch anything on certain patients who came in cause they were highly contagious, and once u got whatever it was, there’s no cure. He knew how to disinfect everything when they came in. My friend also knows about contagious skin disorders, and she told me she spotted a child with the contagious skin disease in a grocery store and kept away. She said the mother would know, but obviously didn’t care about others getting it. That’s the stuff I worry about if I were to go to garage sales or pick up items curbside. Anyway, it’s a lot, but u r pretty good in what u do. 😁

Did you know you can make environmentally friendly cleaner with white vinegar and citrus peelings. Just add the peels from lemons, oranges, and grapefruit or any combination. I have used this to clean carpet spots, sanitize counters and walls, Can be used to clean furniture, too. I ran out of oxyclean and needed to wash my whites, so tried this and it worked. No more stains. Cheap and it's a clean anything.

I don’t recommend that you shake out a paper disposable bag, because that is very unsanitary… I’ve been a vacuum repair guy for over 13 years… but ORECK is so nice …I have one… and the bags aren’t that expensive on eBay

I had no idea how many broken things I had until I met him. I left him alone in my home for a couple of hours and when I came back he said, I fixed the igniter on your grill, and your clock, and your coffee maker, and your tv remote, and your vcr, and I changed the batteries in your smoke alarms, etc etc.

I also reuse the hepa filter on our vacuum I cut the bottom seam and then use a roll of paper/fabric that I have in my sewing stash and cover the seam and sew it on my machine. They are so expensive to buy.
